Terry,

I can't answer this exactly because I haven't visited this Auchan at night, however I have no reason to expect this one will be different from the others in that the 24 Hr pumps accept Carte Bleu (CB) only and /or Auchans own CC issued by Visa.

My IDS book 24 fuel for trucks - does list a BP station on the a16/e40 just pass Jct 27 towards Belgium about 5 minutes from Jct 25 which is where the Norfork line terminal is hope that helps .

Don't expect any French pumps to take UK cards, we tried three weeks ago with no luck and friends report the same.

No problems paying across the desks or at cash points though. There is as said a 24 hour BP on the A16.

There is a huge 24/7 manned truick stop just off the A16 on the approach road to the Calais ferry and a 24 Hour Total on the A16 just south of calais at Aire des 2 Caps if you are heading south.

Hi Terry,

Just visited the Auchan on Thursday, returning from work in Rotterdam.

Price for diesel is around Euro 1,15 and Petrol around Euro 1,45 in Northern France.

The Auchan payment kiosk is manned from 08:30, and UK credit cards will NOT work in the 24 hour automated pumps. Mind you the saving at the Auchan is not so great compared to a few years back - only a few cents a litre.

So as others have recommended the 24 hour stations near Calais could be the answer for you.

Terry. If you are arriving in the rraly hours and need a bit of a break. The 24 hour Aire des 2 Caps service area has caravan parking to the far right of the pumps, the service area is at a higher level than the A16 so is away from road noise and the truck parking area. The Baie de la Somme service area also has a larger quiet caravan parking area to the far right of the pumps and services building but is about 50 - 60 miles south of Calais.

Modern Total service stations also cook food to order in there cafeterias, they will cook you fresh steak and frites or whatever and serve fresh brewed coffee.

It's not exactly "fast food" service but on holiday a little tired after a night crossing and adapting to "wrong" side of road driving we've found a couple of hours quiet time and some fresh cooked food a good relaxing start.

If you are still around Terry do not forget many hypermarkets in France have very narrow exits with tight turns and barriers to the side.

So the mototway services are your best bet. Hypermarket is the best buy for fuel , but check out the exit before you drive the van in and make sure you take the lane where you pay at the kiosk. Or you can find yourself in a tricky sittuation with the van in tow.

I had to help on a couple unhitch van and turn it around in a confined space as they could not get the van out of the pay at pump area that they could not use with their UK cards!
