Does anyone else have a 1999 Elddis Encounter with a damp problem. The whole of our front is damp and needs to be repaired even though it has never sustained any damage! I know of one other caravan with precisely the same problem and would be interested in hearing if other vans are around with a major damp problem.

Jean

I have a 1999 Elddis Slipstream XL with an IDENTICAL problem.

The whole front is soaked through - fortunately the dealer is assessing under warranty. I have found the windows / seals have never been fitted properly.

Please let me know how you have got on.

Hi, i own a 1999 crusader sirocco, which i took to part ex against a new crusader super storm today, the 99 van is perfect in every way or so i thought, until the damp meter revealed damp in both rear corners, there is no discolouration, smell or evidence to the naked eye other than a couple of small pimple like spots, the bill for repairing this is likely to be around

Diferent make of 'van (Avondale) but based upon what I found when I removed the rails (as the screws had rusted a bit under the plastic strip) the sealent applied during manufacture was woeful!

Great gobs of it in places and in others so thin as to be virtualy useless.

Ended up taking all the rails off - awning and window - cleaning up and resealing it all myself.

Now I know it has been done properly and our van is totally dry.

I really am put off by the problems people have with new caravans.

I have a late 1998 Elddis and leaked like a sieve from the front into the left side. When it went for repair, they showed me the reason. The roof panel where it joined above the window looked like it hade been cut by a drunk after a night out. Crooked is a understatment. Ther was no way a leak proof joint could have been made. The van was 14 months old and eldiss did not want to know.Cost
