I have to use VW 506.01 engine oil for the above car which is quite dificult to obtain in the UK without paying VW prices.

Anyone know of brand names that are available and is it more readly available in France.

Hi Mike,

I used to buy the synthetic oil for my 2.0 TDi Skoda Octavia (VW engine) from Halfords. This has the same rating as the VW oil.

You can also buy the oil from any Shell petrol station.

Sorry, I don't know about the availability in France.

Martin.

Mike,

Take a trip down to Halfords and look at the Shell / Castrol / Mobil fully synthetic motor oils.

Anything that meets or exceeds 506.01 or 507.00 (oil for cars with particulate exhaust filters) - take a look at Mobil 1 ESP which complies with VW 507

Likewise anyhting from the top end of the Shell product range, and in France Total / Elf would be a good bet.

Thanks guys, Been to the local Halfords, It did not even list the Touran and the highest spes was Castrol Edge which is 505.01. and therefor no good for the long service intervals ( up to 20,000miles) 505.01 is ok if you have shorter service intervals.

Will look at the others mentioned.

Mike,

I don't know how useful this will be, but recently VW Audi group have been factory filling the engines with Fuchs Titan Supersyn SL - if the engine needs 506.01 grade.

www.fuchs-oil.com

They have a good reputation as a specialist German oil manufacturer, and you may be able to buy it in the UK

Hi mike, be very carefull VW do check that the correct oil has been used if you have a problem with the engine.

I used to go to my local ford garage for the oil for my 1.9 tdi as the galaxy was fitted with this engine and ford where half the price of vw or seat.

however you can get oil that is specifically designed for the vw tdi from most good companies as listed above, i have found the best to be from millers as they do deliver so saving the hassle of finding the oil and collecting.

Have a look at, http://www.millersoils.net/1_Millers_frame_AUTO_RETAIL.htm

It is not cheap to buy this oil from any source.
