I was reading through the February 2013 issue of PC when I came to Pat and Rocky's Adventure in Herefordshire.

Unfortunately the black & white building picture was not taken in Pembridge, but 7 miles east in Corn Square Leominster. The three horse shoes pub is actually boarded up and not the best example to be found in Leominster. The Talbot hotel is about the best black & white pub in the town and still open both for food and drink. While in Pembridge you have "the kings house" which is a very good eatery.

A little more local knowledge on Shobdon airfield. Generally on a wednesday evening you can be treated to a free view of the RAF practicing landings of herculese transport planes at the air strip. Can't say too much but given the county's military connections you might see some exciting action.

There is a "local" furniature and brick-a-brack auction every wednesday from 6pm at kingsland auctions. There you will meet an interesting bunch of local "hill billy's". You might find a few antiques for sale but the fun is in the free entertainment watching about 1200 items sold in under 4 hours. I've bought everything from a caravan to antique horse brasses from there, it realy is an eye opener to yokel locals.

Leominster, Eardisland and Pembridge have a lot to offer tourists and townsend is a good site, Arrowbank at Eardisland has an excellent toilet & shower block and there you can realy experience the local night life of foxes and screech owls who nest in the trees on the site.

By now most of you will of guessed by my forum name that, I live in Leominster. I've lived within 5 miles of the town since 1964 and have also spent three and a half years living fulltime in our caravan until recently moving to a disabled persons bungalow. So you could say I have inside knowledge and outsider knowledge of the area.

If it's regular every Wednesday and no doubt visible from the public viewing area, it's unlikely to be anything secret !

It's a little bit secret, I've never heard of it.

I know what you're saying roger.
Haven't you heard the saying "Hidden in plain sight". I did that for 3 1/2 years while fulltiming on touring caravan sites. Emmerson and Surfer could confirm that, having seen where we were. We had to tolerate one warden for two years who despite living in his caravan that came with his job, was very focused on us just because we used our seasonal pitch fultime. Unfortunately he didn't know that I knew his locally living staff well and they tipped me off on certain things that helped us stay one step ahead of him. Suffice to saythat, if I came across him on any of my caravaning exploits, I wouldn't stop on any site with him on it. fortunately for now, he is not working caravan sites
The spectical of what is called "touch & go" and a landrover on a skate being dropped off the back of a herc, is a remarkable bit of entertainment. As is the sight of 28ft long inflatable rib boats on trailers being towed by huge american V8 trucks, going down white cross road in Hereford. I've only seen that a couple of times and while there are no badges on the vehicles but you can be sure where they came from.
Local knowledge is invauable when visiting on holiday and often it is that bit extra that keeps people coming back. Rocky and Pat have certainly had the impression of what is cider county left on them, otherwise they wouldn't of put pen to paper to share their visit with us.
I have frequently lobby'd our county and town council about making the most of Herefordshire's attractions and publicising events better so that visitors can see more and spend more in our county. In 2013 I will be on their case again trying to get more open access for boating on the river Wye and trying to get a local ex gravel pit open to public sailing. Currently unless you're in a school group or a young disabled activity group you can not use Bodenham lake. Yet under the original plans, it was supposed to be opened up for the community to use. As an over 50 disabled sailor, I have to treck to Bala Lake, Clywedog or Llangorse lake to go sailing, which involves atleast a hour of driving each way and out of county. Herefordshire appears to be the only county to have a designated navigation called the river Wye, but no boat slipways or legal mooring points.

Rolling unload is routine for most operational British Army, Royal Navy and RAF units, not just specialised units.
Herefordshire needs to market it's peace and tranquility !!

Roger, it's always good for people to hear of the more unusual events around where they are sited. The more people get to experience, the more likely it is that they will want to come back for more.
Herefordshire tourist info is not making the most of the county as I found out when we stayed at a caravan site in Eardisland. The tourist info at the site was very good and as a local I was able to assist the wardens in directing people around the county etc. You see, the wardens were not local themselves and while they did go out to try the eateries and some attractions, they did miss some good attractions. Quite often Linda (warden) would send tourist's over to see us at our van to get directions to places or even help with getting parts to fix their car if it had broken down. For example, who would think they could get car parts delivered next day for free to the site from a motor factorer who works out of a church hall in Ludlow.
I'm always happy to help anyone visiting our county, so that they enjoy their stay.
