Hi all we are newbies to the motorhome scene but having just finished a three week grand tour of Spain in a hire van we are hooked. My question is ,if as we plan we do extended tours of Europe starting in the UK what is the best way to insure the van and our selves . Any advice much appreciated

Hi Dave and Jane. Welcome to the Practical Motorhome forum and to motorcaravanning. It's great to hear you so enjoyed your time in Spain.

I'm sure someone with more experience than me will be able to help you!

Hi Dave the spark, we regularly travel to Spain and use life sure insurance they are specialised motorhome insurance brokers and are very competitive with prices.

Is that just for the Motorhome / awning etc

Do you need separate medical / life insurance etc ?

I would assume separate policies, I think that medical is v important if medevac and / or repatriation is needed (hopefully not needed though)

Doing France ourselves this year

I was thinking about vehicle insurance in the main . I would expect to take out separate holiday cover to cover our selves and possessions As I said we are complete newbies so this may be a silly question Can I get UK van insurance that would allow long term European touring or is there .another type of cover.

When you say long term, how long do you mean?
Most van insurance companies allow long periods away. But if you mean staying away for say a year or more then you need specialist cover. Health ins also , you need to check duration. We go away for 3 months at a time, and have cover for health for 90 days in any one trip. The van ins is for 1 year.
Hope this helps, also remember that house ins will often state that you can not leave empty for mabe 6 weeks, so something else to think about.
