Ex-Prisoners

I wonder if anyone can elaborate. On the BBC news tonight it was announced by David Cameron that once they get in power they will pay ex-offenders to stay crime free.

Another hairbrained scheme by the sounds of it but only a vote catcher for the low life. I can't see many law abiding tax payers agreeing to this. Unfortunately there wasn't any details given by the BBC, surely they can't be serious?

Thanks Lutz. Yes, some of those points were also mentioned but I'm sure the news reader said that ex-offenders would be paid to keep out of trouble on release.

It's possible I did misunderstand because I was feeding my face at the time :O)

Truthfully I DO hope I misunderstood. I will watch the 10pm news to see if it's mentioned again.

I hate to say it but I think you're right on this, I too heard this story on the news.

Just shows what an Eton education can do for you.....wonder how much they're planning to pay the misunderstood criminals?

Possibly a sliding scale based on the type of crime committed.

Unless you haven't paid your Council Tax, of course, then it will be straight to Belmarsh.

Good 'ere innit?

Ron.

Thanks Ron, you've saved my sanity. I thought I must have been hearing things :O) It doesn't surprise me in the least though, there's a lot of votes to be had among the prison population who aren't normally Tory voters ... hehheh!

Just found a reference to this story, and it seems that it is true,,,unbelievable but true.

Conservatives have launched proposals for a radical "payment by results" scheme for the rehabilitation of offenders, which would trigger cash rewards for prisons if inmates stay on the straight and narrow after release.

The idea forms part of a package of criminal justice reforms which would also see prison places in England and Wales raised above 100,000 for the first time; a sell-off of old Victorian jails in city centres; an end to automatic early release of prisoners after half their full term; and inmates paying into a fund to compensate victims.

Does this mean all of us who stay crime free will be able to get the same cash incentive?

I do not think so.................oh well, there goes my prospective Tory vote in the next election, looks like the BNP will get it.

Even if your interpretation is correct Damian I still fear for the cost. Another government quango will be set up to monitor it all which will cost more billions.

I was wondering if they would pay us a lump sum in lieu of pensions to leave the country and not come back.

And if it shouldn't work out for us we'll just be welcomed back with open arms when we claim Asylum

A few bob for criminals, why not!

I wouldn't mind if the low risk prisoners were allowed out cleaning up roadside verges for example. At least they would be appreciated for doing some good for the community :O)
