Anyone help me. I have a 96 ABI Award fitted with a Carver Water Heater. Most times when I use it on gas you can hear the spark clicking then it catches with an almighty thump (whoosh)

Had this problem on my last van (86 Sprite) and I had to change the heater module. I know for a fact that the module in my present van is just about a year old.

Surely I'm not the only one in the world thats had this problem.

Comments or cures welcome

Hello Roy,

I have to assume that the heater has worked correctly in the past, and this reluctance to ignite cleanly is something relatively new.

This sounds like a partial blockage in the burner or venturi and can be due to corrosion, or wild life.

When was the heater last serviced?

Even though products don't get a lot of use as compared to a domestic house system, the systems do deteriorate. there are rather nice little openings in the burner assembly that wild life finds quite inviting, and even a single strand of spiders web in the wrong place can disturb the mixing of the gas an air as it passes through the burner.

Only attempt to clean/service gas appliances if you are competent to do so otherwise refer it to competent fitter.
