Sir - I have read your reply to Lord B. regarding a Northern Ireland section within this forum. However I think there could be a call for a section relating to hobbies & interests whilst caravanning. Personally I like to see steam trains and classic vehicles, photography and old architecture. Others on this forum have expressed interests in fishing, golf, surfing, etc.

I think it could be benificial to each of us to hear of individual reports on the merits of their hobby whilst caravanning. Just a thought - perhaps others may not like my suggestion - over to you gentlemen.

Hi Colin

I'm with you on this.

We love walking old disused railway lines and preserved steam railways. Ususally they are off the beaten track in some wonderful countryside.

Cheers

Alan

Hi Colin (Bridgend)

A hobbies and interest section is a terrific idea. We bought our first caravan 3 1/2 years ago as a cycling, walking and church bell ringing accessory. We spend only about 50 nights a year in the caravan (Tim's still enjoying his career too much to retire) but perhaps 90% of these are to enable us to take part in cycling walking or bell ring events away from home. There must be hundreds of different hobbies/interests induldged in by our community. It would be really interesting to hear about them.

I too think it would be a good idea. As long as the Forum Header is popular I don't think you can have too many.

I'm sure if there was a topic for Hobbies it would soon overtake the number of posts on "Insurance, security and storage" which after all of this time is only on 2150.

It just gives another dimension by talking about hobbies hence making it a more active forum. It would also make it easier by narrowing it down to find anything regarding a hobby instead of trawling through Chit Chat and it's waste of time using the search engine.

How about it Your Moddyship or do I have to set Plotter on to you once he's up and better?

Colyn ap Brydgynd, for your information His Moddyship ignored your suggestion for 10 days. It was only when I posted my support that His Moddyship took notice, probably because of what use I could be to him in the Upper House. I must admit I did have to cross his palm with silver though.

Thanks Mod 1 for asking the Techies to create a new forum topic 'Hobbies & Interests'. Well done Colin (Bridgend) for suggesting the idea in the first place.

A 'Going Spare' topic for free private small ads will be great too.

Hi again Mods

Is there any news on the new hobbies and interests thingy from the Techies yet. I though techies were supposed to do things super fast because computers were super fast. Do you think that they might have forgotten?

Hi Denise

As you might know I'm new to this moderating business and I'm sure that Ken or Damian have mentioned this to the techies but I'm afraid that if my experience of becoming a Moderator is anything to go by it won't be anytime soon. There seems to be an obsolete operating system in place and the mills at Haymarket Towers grind exceedingly slowly.

Surely pets and dogs ARE a hobby or interest. After all most people who caravan with pets do so because they are interested in them. There are people on this forum who use their caravan to attend dog shows and horse trials etc, etc.

While I agree going to shows is a hobby, actualy owning a pet ,I feel is far more like a part of the family, that is why I feel they are different to a hobby and with all the added things to be thought of while caravaning with our dogs/pets, a forum for the questions and advice needed to enjoy caravaning would be very helpful. The hobby and interest forums are covered in many other places and while I agree there are many pet forums I feel caravaning with our pets is unique and more relevant to this site than say someone who uses his caravan to see steam fairs, something I enjoy, but not something I would expect to look here for , but where the most dog friendly camp sites , local walks and pet friendly places are I feel is very relevant to a caravaning forum.

Hi Paul

Very interested in what you say about forums combining hobbies and interests with caravanning. I'd love to know where to find them. I've been using this forum for a long long time and it was only as a result of comments from others that I asked about a seperate section mainly as it does not seem to be covered elsewhere. However, whilst we are waiting to have it set up, you might be able to enlighten us as to where else we might find a combined caravanning and hobbies an interests forum.

If you feel strongly about a pets section then perhaps you should ask the mods about it. I'm not claiming, as you suggest that hobbies and interests are more important than dogs, prrots, cats and goldfishetc. I just think that they could be one forum. It would be crazy to have one for dogs, one for train spotting, one for cockateils, one for cycling, one for cats, one for goldfish, etc, etc. What I suggested is for all of us without any you or us.

Regards

Denise

I am not saying there are sites for hobbies and caravanning, just that it is such a large subject, hobbys and interests, I would go to the more specialist forums just for those subjects, as I said I really do not feel our pets are a 'hobby' but are part of the family, going away to a site in a caravan, to take part in a hobby, is a means to an end, but when we go away with our dogs the caravanning is the means, I just feel a forum for caravanning with pets would be very useful, and is seperate from hobbys or interests, I did ask about a forum here and received a nice email back agreeing and posted a message and received a lot of support, but heard no more and nothing was done. Go to 'search' and see how many pet/dog posts there are. I am not against a hobby forum, I just feel a caravanning with dogs/pets forum is more relevant and useful, just my opinion and I agree the more forums the better.

Paul - each to their own as they say. I will agree with you that a pet is part of the family. In my case the grandchildren's dog takes more importance with my wife and son than I do LOL. What I have proposed is a general section whereby one can tour the country/continent and persue one's interests whilst doing so. Myself, I am more interested in the countryside and nature than the beach/swimming, etc. therefore I would be interested in sites with access to outstanding natural beauty. If a dog could be included on an outing to the country so be it, I take the dog out for a 2 mile walk every morning into the country side in Bridgend - generally along the tow path by the river. I enjoy listening to the birds, especially at the moment as there are two woodpeckers in easy sight. I also meet many fellow dog walkers and enjoy a social chat with them.

Regarding Denise's suggestion that the two sections could be incorperated as one I think would be acceptable as should you have a particular interest when away in your van it would be great to know, in your case, what sites accept dogs in the area of your choosing and also to be able to satisfy your interests. The saying "killing two birds with one stone", metaphorically speaking, springs to mind. Please do not think I have anything against your suggestion for a seperate Pet Section but I think the two areas would overlap.

Whatever way they do it I feel more detailed forums with info for pets owners and local interests away from the caravan site would be useful and posted too, maybe not the top ones but more than say 'insurance' , 'storage' or dare I say it 'our website', all good and needed forums, maybe if the search option worked better it would not need lots of different forums , anyway, hope your well and thanks for your reply.
