Just back from a trip, everthing was Ok going. But when I hooked up to come home there was a problem with the road lights on the van. When I brake all the lights came on. When I put the indicators on and pressed the brake the indicators went so dull you could not see them. The car socket if fine as i tryed it on my brothers van. So the problem must be on my van. The van is a 2004 Bailey Senotor Carolina.

Paul,

It sounds like a classic eathing fault. Thoroughly check all the earthing points and wires in the 7 pin 12N plug and then the light clusters themselves.

Cheers

The earth wire on your plug should be white and attached to the centre pin , known as pin no 7.There may then be a terminal block somewhere back along the system. Just trace the wire from the plug back towards the lights. If you look at all the lights , front and back yoou will see that the main chassis of the light unit must be earthed by a wire, "white", I suspect it is one of these or even one of the bulb holders giving you the trouble.

Cheers

Alan

Before you start changing wires around, the Earth is White but not on pin 7 and should be on Pin 3.

Black is on pin 7 an dis the left hand tail/sidelight.

We too are having problems with our road lights. The Right indicator is not working, nor do we get the bleeping in the car. We have tried a new bulb but still no good. The other r hand lights are working fine, as are the left hand ones. We have cleaned the connections and cant see any loose wiring. We wondered if it might be a fuse, but, shame on us, we dont know where the fuse box is. Can any body help please

Hi Mags and Alan. Don't think it will be a fuse as we've had one blow before and all the lights didn't work then but we had exactly the same problem as you when on our holiday to Brighton a few weeks ago. Tried cleaning connections, changing the bulb etc but nothing worked so we asked a kind neighbour on site to plug our van into his car to establish if the problem was with the car or caravan. The lights worked perfectly with his car so we knew the problem was with our car towing electrics. A trip to a local auto-electrician and the problem was solved. We have a 56-plate Vauxhall Zafira and the wiring is in the left hand side storage area in the boot. Apparently, one of the scotchlocks used to connect the wires had come loose so he replaced it and job was done. He only wanted to charge us

It could be a fuse as I had a problem with the N/S lights not working it turned out that the connector on the back of one light had come lose and shorted and blew the fuse. The fuses will probably be in one of the front seat lockers as they will be at the neaest point to where the wire enters the van from the two plugs that go into the car.You should have fuses for left lights another for right and so on.Of course if it is a fuse youmay need to find out what caused it to blow.

Hmm thanks for that both of you. Think we might try Claire and Robs suggestion first, as it seems to be the easier of the 2 options. I'll let you know how we get on.
