Access is fine, we were there last september with our large twin axle. Nice new toilet blocks.

We visited Peterborough, impressive cathedral, and a couple of NT properties in the area.

Plenty of walking and cycling in the park, also watersports, and the steam trains.

To try and give you some more information.

It is a very large site split into 2 parts straddling the entrance road. On one side is mostly hardstandings, shop/office and toilet blocks, on the other is virtually all grass, chippie ( a bit greasy) and toilet block. Most people prefer the hardstanding side except at weekends when the families go for the grass pitches to let their 'animals' oops sorry children play about. The site can be very busy at weekends, as per CC normal, and you may have to book carefully. 'gangs', ok several of outfits can often arrive and wish to be next to each other, which may or may not be to your liking. During the week there is normally no problem. The site is in the Ferry Meadows Park which as mentioned is ideal for cycling, walking and gernerally enjoying the open air. There is a boating lake in the middle. The Nene Vally Railway is alongside and is wortha trip. Peterborough is nearby, but not really accessible by public transport, so a car is usally necessary. There is a garden centre and restaurant at the road entrance, but the rest is mainly houses. The nearest supermarket is in Peterborough.

We have used it several times and enjoyed it, except at weekends when the clamour from the 'weekenders' can be irritiating.

By the way, there is no access problems. Just be careful at the railway level crossing as it is in a dip. There are also speed humps on the raod as it is also the park access road.

hi jo-anne,

Ferry meadows grows on you the more you visit , it is our local (90 miles away )

It takes more than 1 visit to appreciate all it has to offer, suggest you look at the actual Ferry Meadows park on the internet to see how big the park is endless cycle rides and walks, lots of man made lakes that are fed from the river Nene that runs through part of the park, As mentioned their is the railway that has its own station just a few mins walk from either site which face each other across Ham lane, many years ago we actually boarded a train that was hauled by the Flying Scotsman, the line takes you into Peterborough, you can follow the line into Peterborough , either by walking or cycling.

Whichever site you choose its a mere 5 mins walk down Ham Lane into the Park entrance ,one of many.

Approching the site be carefull of the extra large speed bump just prior to the site entrance (which is on the left).

Trust this info has been Helpfull.

We have been to Ferry Meadows twice.

It is fantastic for cycling as Peterborough has a great deal of cycle tracks, there is one that follows the Nene Valley Railway all the way to the City Centre, not just the rides round the park.

Access is good, just make sure you don't follow sat nav as it tries to cut a coupls of corners (well mine does anyway!!), one where you come off the A1, and it tries to take you down a feeder road just before the roundabout with the Beefeater on the corner. Follow the CC route and you will be fine. We have a 6 birth Bretagne, so not as big as a Wyoming, but I cannot see an issue with a t/a.

We have eaten in the Beefeater both times we have been and we have not had to wait too long for our meals, even over Easter.

Also, if you showed your receipt for the camp site, you get 50% off the Nene Valley Railway, which makes the costs easier to swallow.

do they do boat rides on the lakes and how far is the steam railway station from the site?.
Their is one boat on the first lake you see on entering the Park, not sure how often that it operates, walk to the station comfortable 10mins.

Railway station is at the site entrance, so walking distance. You pass it on your way in. The lake is a boating lake and popular fo sailers etc. There is also a minature railway in the park which runs in high season or weekends.

The railway willl take you into Peterborogh, but it is a fair to good walk from the station into the main town. We usually drive in, park in ASDA (you buy a ticket which is refundable at the checkout) walk into town for coffee and then come back for some shopping.

The only slight downside, apart from it being usually full at weekends with lots of kids ( get back in your box you little blighters), is that the town of Peterborough is very popular for, how can I delicately put it, 'visitors from other countries'. Many tend to hang around the city centre and while do not apparently do anything untoward, can be a bit off putting. Also if you do park in ASDA, do not leave anything valuable in the car as theft is commonplace, and there are large signs warning you. The thieves probably come in all shapes and sizes however.

I may get slagged off for the comment but it is noticeable.

Places to visit for us are Oundle and of course parts of Cambridgeshire.

No offence intended Scotch Lad , I was amused by the way you described some of the local people within Peterborough, My late Father-in law came from the Boarders.

None taken. I merely tried to explain delicately that many people there, at least hanging around the town centre, may have arrived in the UK on one way tickets. It seems Peterborough has become like Slough, a bit of a magnet. Possibly other cities are the same, it is just that it was a surprise to us.

Staying at Ferry Meadows meant that we were cocooned in a pleasant part of the area and apart from shopping, we tended to go the other direction.
