I saw your advice on fitting a new mcb board noticed there was no mention of an electrical test when the job was completed. how do you know its safe to use? Being an electrician i found this most disturbing, knowing as i do, that all circuits when new or an addition to an original should be tested to the 17th edition of the IEE regulations. The mind boggels what could have happened in the event of a fault on the circuit, and the risk you are taking in switching the circuit on without a test being undertaken and results recorded on the correct test cirtificate.

Hello Colin,

Wise words indeed,

But whose advice are you refering too, was it on this forum, or in a magazine?

If it was in a magazine, you should be made aware that although the forum is owned by Haymarket, and it is supported by some of the tehchies at Paractical Caravan, the forum is not a mouth or ear piece to the PC magazine editorial staff. Some do montor and join in but if you have a specific issue with a magazine article than you should address you comments directly to the magazine not to this forum.

If it was on the forum, like you I abhore the casual advice sometimes given to change electrical and especially gas installations. There is often a backlash when ever anyone suggets that caravan systems should be checked by professionals.

There seems to be a notion that because a caravan is not permanently attached to mains electric or gas supplies that the systems can be changed without needing proper safety procedures.
