Has anyone had their caravan floor laminated?? If so what are the downsides or problems and how much did it cost. We do a lot of off-roading in our LandRover and so tend to be parked on muddy fields so I am looking at this option to stop my caravan (2000 Bailey Pageant Bordeux) looking dirty and grubby. Any thoughts are most welcome on this subject.

There are two major drawbacks of using Laminate flooring in caravans, Firstly the weight, secondly is its poor resistsnmce to water. Most brands are not rated for wet conditions (i.e kithen or bathrooms) so your choice would be limited. May I suggest you consider one of the vastly improved cushioned linoleum style finishes, easy to cut and lay, waterproof and slightly softer for the barefoot nighttime runs to the bathroom.

hi janice, my missus always makes me take my wellys off before i get in 'her' van! there is also a product called magimat which is without doubt the very best foot wiper thing in the world. not sure where to buy them from but we got ours from the bath and west show a couple of years ago.

i lined the floor of my van with vinyl planking after it had de laminated and it is fantastic i used armstrong vinyl which comes in 36" x 3" planks and is glued down the floor is easy to clean and looks much better than the original carpeting we now just have 2 loose laid carpet runners on the floor which we can take up any time. if you need any more info on how to do it leave a msg, regards stuart

I've just posted a reply which appears to have 'got lost'.

We have a removable carpet over wood-effect linoleum. When in muddy conditions we roll up the carpet and stick it under the fixed bed. When we need comfort out comes the carpet and back down it goes.

If you remove the existing carpet carefully your local carpet shop can probably turn it into a removable carpet by binding the edges (do this in sections, its easier to handle). Alternatively you can use this as a template to make a new removable carpet. If you have it done in sections you can just remove the bit by the door and use a 'Turtle' map, which is excellent for picking up the muck from muddy feet.

my friend fitted a small patch of laminate flooring about one and a half foot square by his door and trimmed where it joined the carpet with gold laminate floor trim and this looked realy great and was realy effective as it gave you some where to remove muddy shoes and could be wiped clean.i would recomend bathroom quality flooring laminate though.
