Please do not get me wrong - I am not in any way anti English, even if some do threaten to kill me in Hereford, but I am already fed up to the back teeth with the world cup. I also could not give a monkey about Rooney's foot or whoever wins the cup. Is there life outside football for the next month - if so please advise me where. I assume all forms of media will be plastered with it and it will be fed to us morning, noon and night - God help us.

What is this game called football ? is a Monkey with "Rooney's Foot" some sort of animal charitable gift like adopting a Donkey or an Elephant ?

As a family we like many others have numerous cups, so why would you want to win one !

I hear there is something about a big thing in Germany and they are delaying the start of the race here at LeMans until 5pm a week on Saturday something to with Champion Du Mond or something.

Can't understand it, tune the satellite to the Canal Channel that is giving non stop coverage to the best party in Europe ;-)

Over here in Germany one just can't escape from World Cup madness at the moment, no matter how hard you try. If it's not Rooney's foot, it's Ballack's calf.

Probably 30% or even more programmes on the TV are somehow directly or indirectly associated with football and you can't go into any supermarket without being overwhelmed by World Cup this and that. Even our baker up the road is selling World Cup rolls and the whole shop is decorated with the team colours of all participating countries.

Tonight we can expect what will seem to be the 90 millionth repeat of the 1954 World Cup Final and as soon as I get up tomorrow morning I'm sure that the breakfast show will tell me how to cook a geniune Costa Rican breakfast or give me a room by room tour of the hotel where the Paraguayan team is staying. I will try to avoid that by switching over to the news but they will only give an account of the progress Ballack's calf is making. This will, no doubt, be followed by some self-styled expert giving yet another detailed analysis of the winning goal in the 1966 Final (was it a goal or wasn't it?).

The most important issue concerning the England team on TV here yesterday was, what type of tea was in the 1000 tea bags flown in specially for them and why were the German tea importers incapable of providing for the team's needs? Shame on them! Inexcusable! We'll need another special current affairs programme on TV to give us more details.

Well it looks as if I'm in the minority on this forum but I can't wait for it all to start. For Graemes info I also have 2 flags (English ones) and wear the England shirts. For those who are not aware it's called patriotism ;O) Whether it's football or whatever I support England or English sportsmen/women. I'm English and proud of my heritage and roots and there cannot be anything wrong in that, gawd the Jocks and Taffs have been doing it for years without criticism from the English. I'm British born but English by the grace of God. His Windyship now pulls up the drawbridge and says now come and get me you peasants - hehheh!

Maybe it's because theres not too many seats in an Operating theatre joby. Can you imagine the scene as the said surgeon, with a grin of success on his face, holds aloft someones spleen and he gets a standing ovation from the audience hehheh!

Lord B as is evident from my initial posting on this topic I am not anti English and I do admire your patriotic stand for your country as much as I would admire a Northern Irish, Scottish or Welsh person for their patrioticism. What I am annoyed at is the media coverage to the world cup. There are some people in the United Kingdom who do NOT like football, I for one, and will be only to pleased to see the end of it. And as for Rooney's brocken toe one would suspect that he is of a higher staus than her majesty the Queen. There are far more important events in the world news than a brocken toe or twenty two grown men kicking a bag of wind about for 90 minutes and three men to see they do it right. This farce will be repeated again in 2010 and even more so in 2012 with the Olypic Games in London - a total waste of tax payers money.

At the moment Colin, Rooneys foot to many IS more important than the Queen. Even in her prime she wasn't a good footballer. If you dread the next 4 weeks why not become a guest of myself at Scewemm Hall. I have a spare room for you, it's called the dungeon hehheh! There is no football on Sundays so maybe I could take you on a tour of High Town in Hereford so you can have a taster of our generosity ;O)

Whilst on the subject of patriotism and football I was at Berwick on Tweed a couple of weeks ago. My hobby is collecting old photos (pre 1950) and going to the same place and taking the modern view. I had photos of Coldstream and Duns, just inside the Scottish border. As I was nearing Duns I passed a car whose driver had his face up to the windscreen obviously mouthing obcenities. Further along two others gave me the finger. I couldn't understand this because I never cut corners etc. Imagine my surprise when parking in the square at Duns the reason for their ire. I had the nerve to be flying the English flag from my car. I find that sad because lots of cars in Hereford have Scottish flags/badges/pennants on their cars. Theres even a Burns Club. What also was a surprise was when I got out of the car nobody made their anger felt. Somehow doesn't this just prove that once behind the wheel of a car people get Dutch courage just like they do behind a computer keyboard ;O)

No football on Sundays? Lucky you. Sundays over here show no mercy. It's Serbia Montenegro vs. Netherlands, Mexico vs. Iran and Angola vs. Portugal this weekend.
