Hang on..........forgot what I was going to say!!

Oh yes I remember now, in the past reading post on here a number of fellow forumites have admitted to leaving things behind and only realising it when it's to late or even only when they have arrived on site. Item's left behind have included EHU lead, water barrels, mover remotes etc.

Am I the only one that believes if it's for the caravan it stays in the caravan, why remove items on returning home and risk leaving them behind.

Beyond me that one

Oh and I'm surprised someone hasn't actually forgotten and left the caravan at home!!;)

I've got a memory like a sieve.

When I used to go camping, I used to take so much clobber with me that I had a checklist. It was divided into subsections. The first subsection was titled "The Bleedin' Obvious" and included tent, pegs and mallet.

With my caravan at a storage site I seriously anticipate the day when I'm halfway to Bristol on the M4 then realise there is no caravan behinf me.

I'll attach my camping list for giggles if I can still find it.. You'll see why I took up caravanning instead.

Always forget the watering can i use to refill the toilet.

And I've also left behind a few spirit levels that I've carelessly discarded after getting the caravan level

There is a story of a man who was travelling through a French village. His wife got out to guide the caravan past an overhanging bulding. A few miles down the road he was just thinking how peaceful the trip was. Then he realised what, or who, he had left behind.

Once went to France (renting a house, no caravan), navigated all the way to the village. Then realised that I'd left the address on the dining table! I wasn't the most popular person in the car with the wife and 3 kids.

Found a house with life outside so went and asked the man in my best French if he knew where the rental home that was owned by xxxxxx (can't remember name). He replied in a scottish accent that he didn't but his friend might. Trip in a strangers car (wasn't a serial killer), amazingly to the right house, key left in the BBQ as expected! Went back to collect family, kids playing light sabres with day old bread with the local children and the wife drinking wine!

A completely true story!

We keep almost everything in the caravan that we need except bedding and food. We cannot see the point of unloading things only to have to take them back. Once when we had the caravan serviced we did leave the keys on the dealers desk, and only discovered this when we went to put it into storage.

I've just been cleaning ours and found some socks in there and a packet of rice that we'd forgot to take OUT of it a few weeks ago! The only thing we have to re-pack are clothes, food and the awning, fortunately the caravan lives down the side of the house so it's all a lot easier!

After a very long drive and flustered by constant traffic jams I forgot to put the steadies down. Soon found out when I walked inside to the back of the 'van.

During the winter I take the caravan telly home between trips, everything else that's "caravan only" stays in the 'van. But until I started using a list there was always at least one item of either food or clothing that got left behind.

I once drove off the storage site without winding the back steadies up. That was an expensive mistake.

On a similar theme we once left a tub of margarine in the fridge from September through to the following Easter. It ended up hairier than me.

Thats the way to do it, but once bedding has been cleaned back in it goes ready for next time.
But do admit food comes out so as not to attract the vermin.

After getting back from a trip during summer and dropping the caravan at storage, I remembered some stilton I’d left in the the top cupboard. I had put it up there to get to room temp and out of reach of the dog. Went back the following weekend to remove it. That could have ended badly…

......went to a site and took two bikes.
Got set up and duly secured the bikes to the caravan chassis with a couple of lockable cables that snap together.
Next day discovered keys for unlocking the cables were at home .... a round trip of 100 miles!
Spare set of keys now live permanently in the glove box :D

On a visit to the lakes some 10 years ago we found a pitch and send the children back to the wardens office to let them know which pitch they were on, and come back with the plastic green “pitch key”, to be returned at the end of the trip. We were still busy setting up the van, putting on locks, getting awning up etc, so one of the children handed me the “key” for safe keeping, for me to later transfer to its normal place on the little shelf above the door.
At the end of the holiday, as we were packing up to leave on departure morning, there was no sign of the key. We searched in the van, high and low, emptied draws, checked in pockets, looked in lock bags. No sign. Keen to get under way, we resigned ourselves to looking again when we got home and posting it back or paying the replacement cost.
We got the kids in the car, and I came out to remove the hitch lock. Took off the hitch cover, and there, on the A-frame, next to the hitch was the pitch key. 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Got to a site once and found I'd somehow left the roof box key at home :-(

Got home from storage once to find I'd left my coat in the 'van. With my work ID card in the pocket. Had to go back for it.

And on the subject of food, back in the lightweight camping days, I didn't bother to wash the cooker and pans after the last meal of the trip because I knew I'd give it all a proper wash back at home. At the start of the next trip, discovered I hadn't done it...
