My new car has a fault with the electric mirrors for some reason the driving mirror will not fold or unfold the left one sometimes will fold when you press the remote locking on my fob and then it will not unfold also notice some thing else filled the car up yesterday with diesel right up to the cap but on the gauge was still at 3/4 full and low battery light ,
So today thinking of ringing the dealer up and ask them to give it a diagnostic check to see if there any faults come up .

Many cars give multiple spurious error warnings when the battery is low - if you've got access to a smart charger it won't hurt to put it on charge.

Thanks for the info about the smart charger but at present my electric mirrors are not working properly as they should .

Roger made a good suggestion to use a smart charger. You said the low battery light. So as said using a smart charger now will do no harm.

There is very clearly something not quite right. As it's a new car the only sensible course of action is to return it to the dealer and provide them with written details of the faults. I am just a little curious as to why you have started a thread in regards to it as, to my mind, returning to the dealer with it is realistically both the sensible, and only, course of action open to you. I certainly wouldn't think of trying to diagnose any fault on a new car.

Yep hit the nail on the head. Low battery makes the car do all sorts of weird things. Probably nothing wrong with anything else except battery is kaput! If car starts, take it to the dealer as per Mr Plod as it is a new car under warranty.

Three apparently unrelated functions which are not working as they should. If you have a low battery warning that could be the common factor. It’s a new car so it would be unusual for a modern OEM battery to fail in such a short time. Could you have inadvertently left an interior light switched to ON. Boot lights can be prone to knocking, or have you not been using the car very much. Either way if it starts take it for a run and see if the faults correct themselves. If not it’s Dealer-time.

Yes, agree, take it for a run for an hour or so and see if the snags are still there.

Are we talking an EV here? EV's still have a 'normal' car battery and the big 'un that makes the car move. The description would suggest that the 'normal' battery is not being charged?

No it's a Ford Tureno, I think. Normal ICE.
Beachball, does it have an uprated battery or separate battery for your mobility scooter hoist. ???

Strictly I don't think an uprated battery is required for hoist. Very much like a caravan mover, it may seem the drive motor may have a large current draw, the fact is they run for such a short period of time, the energy used to work it from the battery is actually pretty small in terms of kWh's

A normal starter battery should have more than enough capacity to run the hoist system. You are likely to use more power if you left the side lights on whilst parked for 30 mins or so.

Are cars any different to caravans?
If I had a pound for every fault I fixed myself I’d be a millionaire.
Of course seeing BBs main Dealer is correct but as is clear from various posts it may be something simple, dare I say , self inflicted 🤪. So why not let BB try the simple things first . If all fails then yes his dealer.
Don‘t forget when you are disabled even taking the Ford back is a lot of hard work!

When I take Mrs H to have her Claws, sharpened and repainted, After getting back from walking the dog, I sit listening to the radio, after 5 minutes, I get a warning , saying start the engine to recharge the battery.
It's a 100 amh. Battery.
How daft, it should last for hours.

How old's the battery? I had something similar when waiting in the rain to pick my son and family up from Birmingham Airport - now my battery is 8+ years old so way over the 5-year change recommendation - I've now had it replaced but the old one still showed 80% State of Health (SOH) - so I now have a back-up for the caravan!

Exactly the same as myself. Nothing wrong with the battery.

It’s a new Ford Tourneo. BB May not have a Smart charger, or might not feel confident to use one. However if the car will start he could take it for a run to get some charge into the battery and then see what the mirrors will do. As he has a hoist does it have an isolation switch that may not have been switched after use. As it’s a new car a trip to the dealer isn’t necessarily the first action as Ford give AA or RAC call out and they could check out the obvious plus start it. It could be as simple as a switch left on, lack of use or loose battery terminal. Using Fords call out wouldn’t invalidate any warranty.

When we bought our first Motorhome from new, I spent time going through the manuals. Unlike a normal car the radio is wired so that it can be on when the engine is not running. The manual indicated that the radio could have a clock displayed when in standby...i.e. not playing anything. So I enabled that.

Three days later when we were due to go away the engine battery was flat and we had to call the AA out. Not sure how much power the radio plus clock display consumes but once I'd disabled that function the problem never reoccurred.

I didn't realise until later that in an emergency you can switch the leisure battery in to start the engine

I thought the last banter was about Hutch’s battery😉

My battery on my car is 7 months old only, a good run would do it a world of good .

Beachball, millions of motorists go about their daily drives without ever needing to put their batteries on a charger. I bought a CTEK smart charger in 2004 primarily to help to maintain the caravan battery when I removed it from the caravan and stored it in the garage. In 2015 I used the charger to put some amps into an 8 year old Nissan Note battery. We had been on holiday for 4 weeks that February and the Note wasn’t keen on starting when we got back. . That’s the only time it has ever been used on a car. The only circumstance s that I envisage you might benefit from one is if you don’t use the Tourneau very much in winter then when you need it you have lights, fans, heaters etc all running.

See what your dealer says first before splashing out on a charger you may never need. They can be bought in Aldi, Lidls for a low price or top spec ones at £100+
