We have an 06 Freelander TD4. Our mpg, calculated as carefully as we can, given the slight inaccuracy of when the fuel refill pump cuts out as being 'tank ful,' gives an average of just over 40mpg solo and about 31mpg with the caravan, which is a 1450Kg approx Sterling Europa 520. The car is always heavily loaded as we carry 2 awnings, windbreak, box of model rc helicopters, ground sheet, foldaway boat, outboard motor and 2 mountain bikes.

Solo, mostly in France, we try to keep our spee to 60mph and travel at 50mph with the caravan. Cutting bacxk by 10mph, over our former speeds, has greatly improved the economy.

Marion i have a Kia Sportage great tow vehicle 2.0 ltr Diesel 144hp XS model great lowdown torque for starting off tow a Swift Charrisma 555 1480kg fullup with no problems tows very well 24/26 mpg towing 40/42 solo has 4wd drive if needed 2wd any other time but as soon as you start spinning it goes into 4wd or you can press a button to put into 4 wd when needed PLUS 7 year warrenty i think its a very good tow car for the money you should get a 07/08 plate for about

Marion,

I also have a sportage the same model as Douglas, I pull a Ace Jubilee Vicroy MTPLM is 1397kgs and it pulls like a steam train. As Douglas says plenty of low down grunt, loads of gizmo's on it as well I looked at a freelander but opted for the Kia as I saved a load of cash. Had mine for 2 years now no problems, get yourself a test drive.

Barry.
