Hi Carl,

I think a Freelander will be an ace tow car BUT!! examples of that vintage have a shocking reliability and quality record, particularly the 1.8 petrol model.

Don't take my word for it, look on any survey; Honest John for starters. Owning one could cause your wallet to have a coronary.

Beware the Landrover protection league saying otherwise too.

As a card carrying member of the "Landrover Protection League" !!!

Steer well clear of the 1.8 Freebie , it has a Rover K series engine and its prone to the head gasket going which will cost you.

Even if repaired it will still fail , as my mates Rover 75 is proving for the 3rd time.

Better cars out there.

Have to echo the 'problems' - my daughter has a Diesel Freelander and is having clutch prblems - upon investigation I find that 'everyone' has problems - Hydraulics fail, brackets break off, clutches fail, even flywheels - and the petrol version is prone to headgasket failure apparently.

Try typing freelander faults/problems into google and you will find some interesting forum threads.

Cheers

Jon

I have been driving and towing with a Freelander for the last eight years, with no major faults to report. But I do accept they have a reliability reputaion, and I have had a few small faults crop up. I have the diesel TD4 which is a good towcar. I had the miss fortune to drive a 1.8 Freelander as a courtesy car for a day, and personally I would not want to tow with one as it was very very gutless. Go for the TD4 if you can.
