Is it Ok to take the weight of the caravan on the front steadies when the jockey wheel is wound right up ? Why I ask

is that I frequent a site which slopes away quite rapidly in

front of the van and momentarily I have to take the weight of

the front of the van on the steadies, and as the steadies seem

to be bolted to the bottom of the floor I sometimes get a creak

this is only until I can readjust the jockey wheel to take the main weight again.

Steve, personally, and in my experience over many years, I think there is no problem. I have a centre fittting jockey wheel and it has to be exactly in line to enable it to be raised for travelling. I support the van on only one front steady whilst I turn the jockey wheel round after manouvering the van and have never had any problems.

The steadies are only really supporting the van noseweight with the main load on the caravan wheels - just don't go into the van and start jumping around.

Yes it is fine I do it myself for the same reason, remember it is no different to being sited with the corner steadies down and you may have six people in the van sat in front of the axle so a lot of the load is taken on the steadies. The only time i would be wary is on vans where the block that moves along the spindle on the stadies is made of nylon because under load the lugs can shear off causing the steadies to collapse.
