Front Windows De laminated

Hi, Can anyone help with this one? Last week while in holiday my missus noticed that the front window moved in and out, even though it was locked up.

I had alook at it from the outside and was amazed when the whole outside parted from the inside at a gentle touch with my fingers. It appeared that the sealing between the front and the inside of the window sheared/parted company. the really bad news is the other two windows were in a similar state, but part sheared and still holding on, although all the vacuum had gone!

My query is, can they be repaired successfully? or will I need three new/used windows at a price? Any help would be gratefully appreciated

What make of caravan is it? I only ask as Burstner caravans had an issue with their vans built between 2000 and 2006 or something like that, and there is a free fix. just in case.

Re glueing will solve the problem, unless as said the van is still in warranty where it is down to the dealer to sort out.

Unlike domestic double glazed units, van plastic windows do not have a vacuum between the panes, so no issue over that part.

Hope it`s not a Coachman, a friend of mine had one front window replaced under warranty because of delamination and water getting in. The new window is a completely different colour Coachman`s answer it will change colour in about 6 months (when the warrany will be out)what a load of tosh. It`s a bronzey looking window instead of a smokey grey.

This happened to me on a Stirling.

I removed front window gave it a good clean then glued with Araldite and carefully clamped together protecting with cloth where the clamps touched .

Left overnight and refitted next day.

This was four years back and no problem.

I would not travel without Araldite great stuff!!John

Thanks to all for the replies and suggestions which will help me to make up my mind what to do about the three windows. Looks like the Araldite could be one good way to get out of an otherwise expensive problem for my 8 year old Lunar LX2000. have asked for a quote from exhaust ejector.co.uk this evening so will hope for some idea what it is going to cost soon.

Thanks again, and will keep you informed,

Pop

Hi Pop - there has been considerable number of messages on this subject, have a look at page 6 in the Technical Forum. It started in early September under the heading "Acrylic window parting company". An alert was issued by Burstner and highlighted the fact that the problem could cause a serious traffic accident if the windows parted company whilst at speed.

The Caravan Club issued a warning on their web site but as far as I know did not high light the problem in the magazine. It should be remembered that the windows in question are fitted to many other vans not just Burstner. My 1999 Abbey has suffered from the same problem on all three front windows and I know of another Abbey with an identical problem. The link to the Polyplastic website is worth following-up http://www.polyplastic-pass.nl./english/faq.php

as also is the following link www.caravanandmotorhomewindowproblems.co.uk

The link to Caravantalk is also very interesting

There is obviously a wide spread problem with windows delaminating and I feel that the Caravan Club has let us down by not pursuing the matter particularly in view of the potential traffic hazard.
