It has even been muted on local radio now that petrol stations are capitalising on holiday traffic by putting up fuel prices a couple of days before a bank holiday.
As per usual our local supermarket put theirs up another penny.
That might not sound much but if you sell 100'000 litres of fuel a day for 5 days then a massive profit can be had at the expence of us poor motorist's!!
Just how much will fuel prices have to rise to before we all club together and start doing what our european neighbours do, and blockade ports and auto bans to get the government to take notice?
Just how much BILLION pound profit does a fuel company have to make before government say's enough is enough?
I don't begrudge anyone making profit but there's healthy profit and darned right racketeering, and I think the later is showing it's self now.
It wouldn't be so unacceptable if we could see investment in highways to improve traffic flow so that we could get optimum MPG from our cars but that doesn't happen either.
All we see is a new toll road and yet more congestion charging.
Manchester is now the target in the sights of congestion charging. If we could find a bus/train that would get us to work on time I'm sure everyone would use it rather than having to sit in huge ques of traffic daily.
Ther does not seem to be the "Dunkirk" spirit in britain today, people seem too self preserved and interested in their own plight, to stand together and be counted.
A simple example of this was a few years ago when I was a CNC machine setter in an engineering company. We were all used to earning around £180 a week on overtime covering 24 hours with 2 shifts and then some bright spark decided to introduce 3 shift working. Now I said to the lads, that if we go collectively to the management and demand £2-80 an hour more or we leave then they would pay a figure close to that to keep a highly skilled work force. Well as per usual everyone thought they could argue their own case when infact they couldn't talk their way out of a paper bag. The management offered them a measily 50p per hour and once one accepted the president had been set.
I negotiated my deal as I was left on my own to fight, and came away with £1-80 an hour as I could prove with city & guilds papers that I was a valuable asset to the team.
But don't you think that if everyone had stamped their feet and said NO WAY, then we would of achieved our goal?
I've said this before and will say it again. Why can we not stop in the road say at 11am one day for just 15 mins as a whole collective group to register our discontent at the way us motorist's are being ripped off. Admitidly no immediate results would be felt, but just think of the media reaction to a raised profile like that.
Your thoughts?
