Fuel Prices Again!!!

It has even been muted on local radio now that petrol stations are capitalising on holiday traffic by putting up fuel prices a couple of days before a bank holiday.

As per usual our local supermarket put theirs up another penny.

That might not sound much but if you sell 100'000 litres of fuel a day for 5 days then a massive profit can be had at the expence of us poor motorist's!!

Just how much will fuel prices have to rise to before we all club together and start doing what our european neighbours do, and blockade ports and auto bans to get the government to take notice?

Just how much BILLION pound profit does a fuel company have to make before government say's enough is enough?

I don't begrudge anyone making profit but there's healthy profit and darned right racketeering, and I think the later is showing it's self now.

It wouldn't be so unacceptable if we could see investment in highways to improve traffic flow so that we could get optimum MPG from our cars but that doesn't happen either.

All we see is a new toll road and yet more congestion charging.

Manchester is now the target in the sights of congestion charging. If we could find a bus/train that would get us to work on time I'm sure everyone would use it rather than having to sit in huge ques of traffic daily.

Ther does not seem to be the "Dunkirk" spirit in britain today, people seem too self preserved and interested in their own plight, to stand together and be counted.

A simple example of this was a few years ago when I was a CNC machine setter in an engineering company. We were all used to earning around £180 a week on overtime covering 24 hours with 2 shifts and then some bright spark decided to introduce 3 shift working. Now I said to the lads, that if we go collectively to the management and demand £2-80 an hour more or we leave then they would pay a figure close to that to keep a highly skilled work force. Well as per usual everyone thought they could argue their own case when infact they couldn't talk their way out of a paper bag. The management offered them a measily 50p per hour and once one accepted the president had been set.

I negotiated my deal as I was left on my own to fight, and came away with £1-80 an hour as I could prove with city & guilds papers that I was a valuable asset to the team.

But don't you think that if everyone had stamped their feet and said NO WAY, then we would of achieved our goal?

I've said this before and will say it again. Why can we not stop in the road say at 11am one day for just 15 mins as a whole collective group to register our discontent at the way us motorist's are being ripped off. Admitidly no immediate results would be felt, but just think of the media reaction to a raised profile like that.

Your thoughts?

Morning all. Steve, many years ago, when lorry drivers went on strike, I suggested a similar thing, except that I wanted all lorry drivers to take their lunch break at 1.oopm on a preset date, wherever they were at that time, be it at traffic lights, motorway or whereever, just stop for their legal 45min break. the chaos would have been unbelievable, and then do it again the next week, and so on. There would have been no need for a strike, but the unions wouldn't hear of it. They wanted all-out strike, but I'm still convinced it would work.Look what happened with the blockades a year or two ago. The trouble is, we motorists do not realise the collective power we have.

Morning,

" Just how much BILLION pound profit does a fuel company have to make before government say's enough is enough? ".

The Goverment will never say enough is enough. Why because as the price of fuel increases so does the goverments take, in both Direct and Indirect Taxation. It's what's keeping the prolific spending on Public Services going, otherwise we would have needed a much bigger increase in Personal Taxation at the last budget. Does it really matter if the Tax is on Fuel ?? or should VAT be increased to 20 % so you pay it on almost everything you purchase. One way or another the Goverment needs the money so they will find a way !!!!!!!! Being a law abiding Citizen I can't condone the tactics you advocate, but I do agree with them as a measure of making the Goverment take notice. Still only a couple more years to go and we can vote out this rag bag bunch who only look after themselves.

Now what I would agree with whole heartly would be to go to the Local Offices of MPs and state our grievance. Now if this was done collectively I think it may make a difference, because the MP would then see directly the people who are capable of stopping the Gravy Train

Research has already been carried out, by the petrol companies, which show that fuel price would have to rise well above

Unfortunately you will probably find these days that ther are just as many people writing to the MP asking for fuel prices to be increased.

I agree with Frank's sentiment that tax on fuel is, to a point, better than tax on income.

Considering that oil will soon be a thing of the past, what is the point in spending huge amounts of money on a transport structure that serves oil burning vehicles?

You will also find that the price of fuel is governed by the international market price of oil, over which the government of this country has little or no influence.

As for the huge profits the oil companies make, an element of "Make hay whilst the sun shines" comes to mind, your pension fund possibly has shares in oil companies, other, smaller shareholders may decide on an extension to their house so the builder, the plumber and electrician share some of the profit

"Greater fleas have lesser fleas upon their backs to bite em, lesser fleas have smaller fleas and so on infinitum"

Hi all,

Given that over 2 milloin people signed a petition to object about road toll charging they still went and set the wheels in motion to bring them in anyway so the chance of a few disgrunttled people wont make the slightest bit of notice to the government.

Tony blair and gorden brown have bled this country dry since taking power 10 years ago as i see it mps emps and the rich and famous dont give a dam about average joe and they wont give it up until we can not afford to pay for fuel and use our cars or take an annual holiday they just want no cars on the road so they dont get stuck in traffic or held up at the airports.

With so many stelth taxes and normal taxes we have to pay we will soon have to pay to go to work. Mind you i work over 10 miles from home i wont be going to work.

Oh! well i will get dole wont i?

Regards,

Andy.
