Fuel prices yet again.

Over the last week our local Morrisons fuel station has reduced its price of unleaded from a wallet busting 121.9p down to 115.9p per litre which is most commendable.

The reduction was in 2p increments which in the past has usually been 1p at a time and over probably several weeeks to get 6p off.

I'm not knocking a reduction at all as we all welcome that good news.

My point is that prices seem to be out of cyncrinisation with the barrel price and also the usual situation where the smaller independant fuel retailer was consistantly around 3-4p dearer than the supermarkets has gone.

All of these observations could lead one to determine that pump prices are being artificially held high without true justification other than greed for profit.

During the election news bulletings there was a motor cycle protest outside westminster caught on camera and the sound of horns blasting rendered the news reader unable to continue their conversation, thus driving home the point that some folks do have a passionate feeling about fuel prices.

Sorry I missed a meet last wk end Ian. I was chasing after Rover 75 estates Rotherham saturday, Grantham sunday all to no avail due to sellers being "economic with the truth" Grr!

Hence some more notice of fuel prices.

In Lincolnshire they actually have privateer garages selling petrol cheaper than the supermarket.

Even today Hereford is still at 118p unleaded when we're at 115p in Leominster.

This old cynic remains to be convinced about the difference (except in price) between supermarket and oil company fuels.

Before becoming a 'gentleman of leisure' (several contradictions rolled into one) I used to visit a numbr of Uk refineriens where you could see a line of road tankers all filling up at the same outlets and bearing all many of logos - depending on which part of the country two or more oil companies and two or more supermarkets.

Now, for example, Tesco are into nearly everything but not yet, to my knowledge, into refining. Not sure quite how many refineries there are in UK at present but will be quite surprised if it's more than 20. Supermarkets do not actually make 'own brand' prducts with the possible exception of in-store bakeries but even some of these use pre-prepared dough.

Sorry folks, and I won't even start on Santa Claus.

The difference is the additives that they add as I get more mpg when using Shell or BP and I have proven thsi with both my cars. In addiiton, my diesel runs cleaner so YES there is a big difference between supermarket and main brands.

You can always add your own additives, if these are important to you.

Personally i always fill with the cheapest fuel, i have never found any of my cars lacking in performance using super market fuels, and as i dont keep a car over 50k, the long term effects that extra additives bring have no relevance.

There you go Ray not all of us can afford to change our motors at 50,000 miles my Espace has 140.000 on the clock.

I agree with what was said further up the thread and it is the additves that make the difference ,handy to know additives to use , if you can tell us what to add to Supermarket fuel.

I too have done a fuel check Morrisons against Shell and I can assure you I get more miles with Shell, and not just a couple of mile either.

Im a penny pincher nowadays as I have been made redundant and I make every penny count.

Like most people trying to make the hard earned last longer, I have over the years used all outlets as I look at cost first.

By the way my 1998 Laguna is having it's 200'000th mile birthday party today. Only 45 miles to go until the mile stone is reached.

Goes just as well on shell or asda or tesco fuel for that matter and I don't get a Tiger in my tank from esso either.

Petrol is petrol it goes mang and we move forward.

I get 5% or 6p a litre off every litre of diesel over the pump prices at Sainsbury's by using my cashback card. plus when sainsbury's have special 5p off I get that as well so I then get 11p litre off my diesel, just by using my cashback card.
