Full awning or Porch?

Hi During the half term week we had our awning and van damaged in the gales. By the time we had thought about taking it down, it was too dangerous. Anyhow we now have a dilemma:

This 1025 awning takes forever to put up and causes so much stress on the first day and now we are thinking shall we resort to a smaller awning and we like the Isabella Magum. Will we regret downsizing. We have an Inaca Sands awning and it is never easy to erect and never seemed to look quite right. Does anyone have a full awning that they find easy to put up and does by chance anyone have a Lunar Quasar 615 with an Isabella Magum. I know the meaurement is 3.2m but our van is in storage and it may save me a trip. Thankyou in anticipation. Denise

Hi Denise

We have a TA with awning size 1085, we use a Ventura 950 awning which is easy to put up and gives 3/4 of the van size as awning. Also have Eurovent porch awning easy to put up and take down in a hurry, it is the type where the roof just slopes down fronm the caravan like a lean to rather than pitched like the Isabella, we are happy with both. We have had Isabella porch and full awning in the past and while they were very good , they were a right *** to put up and take down, mainly because of the size and weight.

Hi Denise,

We have a Bradcot Classic 930cm and we find it really hard and stressful to put up. We dread arriving because of the awning so we have now bought an Nr coniston lux which is slightly bigger than a porch. The 2 of us can put it up in 10 mins and in February after a 3 hour journey we arrived on a cl and it was blowing a gale 8, we got the porch up and pegged down quickly. If this has been our full awning i dread to imagine what would have happened.

We do notice the difference in space in the porch compared to the full, but there is still enough space for 2 dog baskets, a table and 4 chairs and during cold nights the porch is much warmer than the full.

Friends of ours have an Isabella Magnum and they say it is the best awning they have owned, they spend 3 months in Spain for the winter and the awning withstands all weather conditions.

Hope this helps

Ian

Hi Denise

We have an Inaca Sands which we have had extended from 1000 to 1050cm to fit our current van, we also have an Isabella Magnum which has been well used over the ast three years.

To be honest we extended the Sands because we were having difficulty selling it and thought by extending it we could at least get some use out of it. However the Magnum is far easier to put up and withstands bad weather well, including gales on the west coast of Scotland and at the Lakes this easter.

We also find the Magnum has plenty of space and if it does need to go across a van window the padded sides do not scratch or mark the window.

We have a porch awning we use for short trips/weekends and a full size for a week long break or more.

I recomend you still use the full size . . . You might as well get the oblligatory argument out of the way early, then you can get on with your holiday :)

sensible to get both for differing conditions

Don't know about the Lunar Quasar but we have used an Isabella Magnum on our last 3 caravans. Great awning, very easy to erect, stands up to anything the weather throws at it - have used it in Braemar in storms and Aviemore in blizzards with not a problem. Plenty of room for us and our two grandchildren to eat plus plenty of room for them to play in.

Hi Denise

We have a Bradcot Classic 960, when we put this up on a full weeks holidays I can put the main section up on my own (if not to windy)while my wife June sorts out the van inside & only get her to help zip in the panels, we have a porch awning for short stays this only takes minutes to sort, (ok some people do seam to struggle)

We have a Ventura Marlin and are really pleased with it.

We swapped to the Ventura after our Bradcot "easy up" came down in Devon, damaging the van along the way.

The Marlin is easy to put up, roomy, light and can be swapped from van to van. As a result you don't have the additional cost of buying an awning when changing the van.

We wouldn't go back to a full awning.

Denise,

We have Magnum with Spectrum 540- excellent. Tried Minor first, but a little too small if you have dogs or family. Isabella awnings excellent, best in our experience -get what you pay for. Easily put up single handed. We have since added the annex to the Magnum, which was a bit fiddly first time, but pretty straight forward. You could now argue that we may as well have bought a full awning! It's nice to have both front side windows to look out of and be nosy.
