Full size lightweight awning

We've got a Sunncamp Ultima 260 porch awning and are, on the whole, very pleased with it. However, when we're away for more than just a long weekend we could do with something a bit bigger but we don't want the expense/additional weight/argument in a bag that seems to come with 'proper' awnings. Ideally, we'd like something similar to our Sunncamp but full size (975 cms in our case) so that it seals at boths ends and gives us a bit more room and comfort but doesn't take Geoff Capes to lift it (Claire sometimes puts the awning up/down on her own so needs to be easy to handle). We've looked at proper Isabellas, Doremas etc but would prefer the lightweight tent-type fabric as it's much easier to manage - especially when wet - although we do realise that it's nowhere near as hardwearing.

Does anyone know if our dream exists please?

Thanks in anticipation of any replies.

If you want something really light, why not have one of the sun canopies which come with sides. The same size as a full awning but you do not have the front panels. Much easier to put up, about half the weight. We have a full awning, porch awning and a canopy. The porch is used for very early and late week-ends and the sun canopy the rest of the year. We very rarely use the full awning now befcause it is so heavy and needs 2 people to erect. Some people will say that you do not any security for your awning contents - but how much security do you get anyway with canvas and zips?

hi Clair & rob

glad you did bump it up a bit or I might of missed your post as there is no post reminders on here so a new one is easily missed

anyway there are light weight full awnings out there cos I have seen them unfortunaty I have no idea who makes them or what actual sizes they come in I am sure ultima do one as well as porchlite they are the 1/2 tunnell type but the sides do not go in the awning rail but have the elastic bands like the porch awning I would like to look a one for the bailey as the dorema is awful to put up on your own an takes hours trouble is it has a odd roof line that dips down at the front 1/3 and I not sure if a awning big enough to be classed as full would all that well.

Claire & Rob. Regarding the 'half tunnel' type mentioned by Colin-Yorkshire, you might like to take a look at my earlier posting "Bag Awnings" listed a few days ago. By the way it is 3 sections long = 390cms.

We also had a 260 but needed something to sleep in which was waterproof and lightweight. We bought a Khyam Motordome Excesior Awning which is marketed predominately for motorhomes but is fine for caravans. It is 15Kg, 240cm high and has a total floor area of 460 x 300cms which can be divided. There are two plastic windows, two mesh sides, one whole side opens and a door. You can buy an inner tent but I bought a cheap universal inner and adapted it. Initially we used a figure of 8 plastic strip to attach the awning to the van but this slipped in the high winds. Eventually we decided on the length of roof height we wanted and cut the awning cord either side of this length. We then threaded the awning directly into the caravan awning chanel with a couple of those little metal stops at either end and this worked brilliantly in the strong Cornish winds last summer. We have had a Khyam Screenhouse for many years and find these products fast and easy to use, it is however worthwhile taking care with the frame when erecting/taking it down and it will last for years. It takes about 5 mins to erect plus pegging out and the same to dismantle. The light fabric dries very quickly. This isn't the ubiquitous caravan product but does the job very efficiently and I don't even work for Khyam!
