G,Day Mates.

Tony here from Brisbane Australia, just joined to say hello to all the caravaners in the UK.

Me Tony and my wife is Pat both a young 52yrs, we are British but emigrated to Queensland Australia just over 11yrs ago.

When we lived in the UK we had our own small caravan sales in Cheshire and had numerous uk vans inc Lunars, Swifts, Elddis, Bailey etc.

We still have a caravan here in Australia but as you can appreciate having to make the big emigration and although it was a long time ago it certainly pulled on the wallet strings as in the UK we had a 94 Swift Conqueroror but over here we have a 1989 Millard 370LP Poptop in A1 condition.

This is a wonderful country to be able to go touring in as there is so much to see and do and boy is it big WOW.

Anyways enough from me, looking forward to being part of the forum and who knows i just may be able to answer questions about Australian made vans if anyone is considering coming to Australia and wishing to purchase a van once they have settled.

Best Regards

Tony

Hi Tony

Welcome and glad you are still enjoying the caravan life over there in Oz. I have many fond memories of working and backpacking in Oz, Brisbane particularly was the one place that i could have envisaged myself settling but with no avail... the roots of home in Stoke on Trent pulled me back but will definitely keep the plans to visit again in the future.

G,Day Pat & Stockies

Many thanks for the welcome to the forum.

Stockies, Yes i know what you mean about Brisbane, its a wonderful city and Queensland has the best climate even now its winter here and of a day its still around 23c/76f not bad for winter hey.

I lived in Widnes which is not that far from Stoke On Trent and i was a coach driver and took many coach loads of people to Alton Towers which from memory is around that way......i think.

I see from your other post that you are new to caravans having upgraded from a tent, stick to caravans mate ive had many bad experiences with tents both in the UK and here in Australia.

Gotta go just gonna but another snag(sausage) on the barbie.

Hi Tony, welcome to the forum.

I imagine that you have plenty of places to go with your caravan, do you stay on parks or can you just pull up anywhere?

I don't think that I'd relish tenting in Oz, too many things that bite but the barbie weather sounds great.

Hi Parksy

Yes, we stay mainly in caravan parks although to be honest the Australian caravan parks are nothing like the UK parks, they have all the modern conveniencies such as Electric hook ups, water/waste next to van, some are ensuite sites with your own ensuite building next to your concrete slab which has shower/toilet and some have a washing machine.

When we were in the UK we used to go to a lot of the Haven sites or the likes of Flamingoland, there is nothing like them here in Australia although i wish there was, they have swimming pools etc but thats about as exciting as it gets, the majority of parks do not have pubs/clubs on them selling alcahol.

You can what they call here Free Camp where you pull over into a designated Free Camp area like a large pull in area off road, rules apply were you do not make a mess and if you do you clean up before departing and take all rubbish with you, unfortunately some people do not abide by this simple rule which is leading to more free camping areas being closed then they moan that they are being shut down.

Yes,lots of nasties over here to bite but to be honest if you stay away from them them they stay away from you.

I was bitten by a RedBack spider about 3mths after arriving, not a nice experience but still here to tell the story, they dont kill you only if you are very young or elderly or your defences are low, just made me feel really sick but can make you feel a lot worse, i was lucky.

Like i said looking forward to contributing to the forum and hopefully will be able to answer any questions from forum members thinking of coming to Australia and wishing to purchase a van.

Regards

Tony
