Gas Autochange over?

Having to get up in the early hours of the morning to change over gas bottles is no fun!

We are looking at getting an automatic changeover unit/valve for our butane gas bottles.

Does anyone out there use one and if so how do you find it? They seem to be about £40 so does that seem to be the going price for it?

Also is it a DIY job to fit or does it have to go back to the dealer?

Many thanks

It sounds like you use a lot of gas in your travels. As we use EHU's we rarely use more than 1 cylinder in a season so these problems rarely occur.

However, if you do fit such a device how do you know it has done its job without actually checking at a later date. My vision is that it does a changeover, you do not notice, and when the 2nd cylinder runs out, you are kaput. At least by getting out to do it manually, you know to change out the empty cylinder.

Angela,

I have had a Gaslow Auto change system, propane in my case for years. Excellent system. If you winter caravan and are going to buy and fit a gaslow auto system i would change to propane.

On opening the gas locker, if the dial has turned from green to red the bottle which was in use is empty.

You just replace the empty cylinder and turn the dial through 180 degress. The dial then turns to green.

If you have the cooker, fridge or fire on at the time you change the cylinder you do NOT need to awitch off the gas, so there is no interruption in supply.

The pipes to the bottles have non return vavles .

You can change the cylinder when it suites you. When the rain stops!!!

I would recommend a changeover valve.Easy to fit and you can always check if the cylinder has run out when you turn off the gas vlave when going home. The best bit is it gets every once of gas out of the cylinder so no wastage.
