I haven't got a Cadac but I have used oneseveral times. I don't think they are a BBQ, more an outdoor frying pan. That said I think they are brilliant for numerous tasks and are flexible to be able to cook anything from fried eggs to lumps of meat.Very portable( but heavy)and easily cleaned, you can move a lot of your messy cooking outdoors rather than use the hobs on the oven. The only reason I haven't bought one is the weight and the price. Instead I use one of those very cheap(

I also use the rock and flame BBQ for the same reasons. It is proper BBQ cooking, burnt bits and all and not just a hot plate. I bought mine from a supermarket for about

Burnt bits ??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!

No burnt bits on my cooking as I keep a constant eye and turn the food frequently whilst keeping a regularly topped up glass of beer or wine in my hand (just in case of flare ups you'll understand) !!!!!

Hi guys

Thanks for your comments. To date we have used the same BBQ's as you have with good results. Mike and our youngest son, has special needs, like nothing more than cooking on the BBQ and having a glass wine Mike, our son cola, as they cook on the BBQ.

We just wonder about having a cadac BBQ with the options for cooking. We have seen people washing the surfaces in the washing up area of cc sites.

Any comments again thanks in advance. Annette

If there are no burnt bits you ain't doing it right.

My son was about 10 years old when he used to clear all the 'bones' from everyone's plate, especially his younger sister, and then re-cook them on the flames. He totally ignored all the comments regarding him being a carnivore, and even worse from his sister who was mortified. His enjoyment of the various blackened parts removed was a pleasure to watch.

I fully agree with the glass of wine or beer though. These are essential if the cook (me) is to do the job properly

We love BBQed food, as long as you realise that gas is a lame 2nd to the taste of Charcoal cooked food the Cadac is OK.

As most caravans have ovens and hobs we've never seen the point of carrying the extra weight of yet another cooker.

Hi Annette,

We are a family of 5 and have a Cadac BBQ. The advantages are:

You're not just restricted to cooking traditional BBQ type food. I use it to cook stir-frys, curry, fish and complete cooked breakfasts for the whole family.

Strong odour food is cooked outdoors - saves going to bed with the van stinking of fish/curry etc.

You don't have to wait for the BBQ coal to go white before you can start cooking

Can double as heater when it gets a bit fresh when the sun gone down

If you get the type with the lid you can cook the food slowly by turning the gas down.

No need to carry coal, fuel lighters etc

The disadvantages are:

You don't get the traditional 'BBQ taste' and 'smell'

The weight - they are solid bits of kit and I carry ours in the back of our tug rather than in the van

They can be a pain to clean - I try not to burn anything and mop up any fat etc straight after cooking with kitchen roll to make it easier to clean.

For short weekends they are convenient and all the cooking can be done outdoors. If we are away for a week or more I also carry a cheap split barrel type traditional BBQ which gives me the flexibility for the craving of the traditional taste from the smell of other peoples BBQ's !! Also use the Cadac at home on the patio.

Hope this is of help.

the link you have given via e bay is for riversway leisure in preston, we bought our first cadac 5 years ago from them and ive just received the latest model as a christmas gift that allso came from riversway, they are more often than not the cheapest place to purchase cadacs.

the cadac for us is an essential piece of kit, my family is now basically 4 adults as the kids are grown up (alegedly)so to cook even a breakfast in the van can take a very long time, on the cadac i can get a full english for 4 adults cooked in around 20 mins and cleaning the cadac afterwards is a simple case of a spray with degreaser and rinse under the hot tap in the pot wash area.

we use the van every 3 weeks summer and winter for weekends away but we no longer use it for our main holiday as we like a bit of sun once a year ! but each october we do go to the isle of wight for a fortnight and allways go to b&q to buy a cheap charcoal barbeque, we use this for the fortnight then just put it in the recycling area, we do this as normaly we have 3 vans with a total of 9 adults and 3 kids to feed.

I aggree with you on this subject.

We bought a cadac, used it a couple of times then it had to GO.

Far too heavy for caravan touring and no matter how careful you are with cooking they are the worst ever for cleaning.

We have been looking at a Broil King Porta-Chef Barbecue and this seems to have everything we require, including a warming rack and folds up to a reasonable size. Has anyone used this BBQ, any comments greatly appreciated as we are hoping to buy before we go caravanning in March.

Hi

Thanks to everyone for their replies. I have now brought one from e bay - as mentioned Riverside Leisure, very quick delivery, competative price. Looks good. A good birthday present. Mike likes the idea of being able to cook breakfast for 5 at the same time, also the options its gives us in addition to bbq.

Thanks again

Annette

oops! Posted in wrong place.

Sorry but I just don't get this BBQ business!

My experiences......

People in van parked alongside oozing clouds of smoke which always seems to come in my direction.

UGH!!

Neighbours who persist in spoiling a summers evening with their burnt food odour and smoke.

UGH!! UGH!!

Actually invited to a BBQ evening and had the unpleasant experience of tasting this half raw half burnt waste of good food rubbish.

UGH!! UGH!! UGH!!

Not for me thanks!

Annette,

We have had the Cadac for several seasons now and I wd agree with many of the comments. We prefer to cook outside the caravan for obvious reasons and several times last season we were glad to be able to continue cooking during rain due to the shelter given by the Cadac lid. We use it each morning for the Gt British Breakfast which is our treat whilst we are away, as someone has said the reverse of the grill makes a great fry pan and my wife brushes oil onto the bread slices which means it then browns nicely without swimming in hot oil etc. But we still take the odd throw-aways for those evenings when we cook sausages which mean we can just chuck in the morning without needing extensive cleaning...

All your "experiences" seem relate to the users of barbecues, not the actual barbecues themselves---if it is positioned correctly--and the food is cooked properly, then you will have a lovely meal---makes you wonder why so many people use them !!
