We are going abroad with the caravan for the first time , I know the car has to show a GB sign, but my wife, who's car we use, does not want a GB sticker on the car, she hates stickers and does not trust a magnetic sign to stay on. The answer is to get new number plate with the eu star thing and GB plate, ( my money is not object, to her !) Really my question is , do we also need a new GB number plate for the front ? Thank you for any advice.

No you only need to show a GB sticker at the rear of the vehicle, don't forget if you are towing a trailer or caravan you will need one on that to.

Why dont you just stick a normal GB sticker with sticky tape onto the inside of the rear window of the car and do the same to the van?

You can purchase the blue gb euro bit for your number plate from Halfords.

I also don't like stickers so 'til we changed to a car with the EU symbol on the number plate we displayed the GB emblem on the inside of the rear window by overlaying a sheet of clingfilm on top of it - worked perfectly.

This might be a wrong move, only in that "Clingfilm" has been linked crazing of caravan windows. The context was the practice once recommended by winter cover manufacturers for protecting windows from scratching. It was to do with the plasticizers acting on the window.

Just a thought but otherswise a good idea.

should have type " linked to micro crazing"; wish this forum had an editing feature!

I too didn't want a 'sticky' GB sticker on my car. I've used a magnetic GB sticker for a number of years now and never had a problem with them. The magnetic sticker does exactly what it says on the tin.

When back on this side of the channel it is then just lifted off.

We have a normal GB sticker on the back of the van.

On our car we have a protective plate behind the tow ball to prevent damage to the bumper should the tow hitch of the caravan hit the bumper. I stuck the GB sticker on that plate and when we came home I removed it without any damage to the car paintwork.

smear some Vaseline on to car bodywork, stick the sticker to this,it comes off easily when you have finished with it. Do the same on the caravan. J.Lo
