just bought a 1989 (ish) swift corvette, cheap and cheerful and not too expensive if the missus doesnt like caravanning. we are tent campers originally but the long stint of wet summers is begining to get tiresome!

for pulling it i use my 1996 range rover, v8. to be honest it doesnt even know the van is there.

we have only had the van a few days, paid 700 quid for it. and to be honest i couldnt be happier with a van of this age and its in good condition.

hopeing to glean some useful info from you all. i havnt towed a van since i was 18( 33 now) so its all very new for the second time round, i cant get the bloody thing to go backwards in a straight line or where i want it to. i suppose this will come with time but with a long car and then a caravan on the back i think precion will be a must when parking up and locating on the drive and on the sites!

luckily its a very light caravan so a bit of brute strength picks up from where lack of driving skill fades out!!

Hi Gavin, welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new acquisition.

If you're unsure of anything don't hesitate to ask and I'm sure that your reversing skills will improve with practice. Remember that the bottom of the steering wheel points in the direction that you want the back of the caravan to go in and just make small steering inputs whilst reversing slowly.

Have a look at this interactive reversing demo, copy and paste the text into your web browser:
