Can anybody recommend a good quality, clean, not too large, family freindly site in the French Alpes, Annecy area would be preferred but certainly not essential.

We also have 2 children aged 6 and 4 so a pool always helps. We are starting to plan our 2007 holiday to coincide with catching a few Tour de France mountain stages, so we need to be prepared as I'm sure the sites will get booked up early once the route is announced.

We stayed at Camping international Lac Blue right on lake Annecy at the far end near Doussard in June. It was lovely and clean and has a pool. The lake is very busy even in June but we enjoyed it. Toilet facilities are excellent and only drawback was the road noise which is quite common in this area.

It has a web site www.camping-lac-bleu.com

La Ravoire at southern end of the lake. Stayed there for 2 weeks at end of July and it was brilliant. Will return again next year.

Hi Sean,

I ve just had a look at the site, looks fantastic. A couple of questions.... Was there much noise from the road and did you have to cross the main road to get to the lake??

Thanks

Simon

Hi Simon

We stayed at Camping La Columbiere at Neydens for 9 nights in late july. Not the largest of sites, it was full all of the time Its very near to the motorway 5 Mins, 6 miles to Geneva, lake Annecy was a short day trip.Chamonix about 50 miles, I think, but well worth the visit(if you plan to go up Mont Blanc the get there as early as possible and take some warm clothes with you, it was 32deg at the bottom 2deg at the top on the day when we went)The site has a shop, resturaunt, pool, kids play ares etc. Pitches vary in size and are mostly surrounded by hedges. Staff friendly and helpful. Would reccomend this site to anyone web site www.camping-la-columbiere.fr

Hope that this info is of use

Hi Simon

No road noise apart from the occasional siren now and again. There is a cycle path that runs the whole lenth of the lake and you can use this to cross further up. We did this a couple of times it was about 3km on our bikes. We did cross over the main Annecy to Albertville road many times on our bikes, to get to the beaches dotted along the lake and never had any trouble. I have 2 daughters aged 8 and 10 and they didn't find it a problem either.

As I said the site was great - brilliant atmosphere, helpful staff and great facilities. It was our first time abroad with the caravan and this was the first site we stayed at during our 5 week trip. I have to say that this was the best, although they were all good in their own way. We are going back next year and spoke to many people who return to the site year after year. The area around Annecy was brilliant and there is so much to do - we bearly scratched the surface in our 2 weeks there.

Hope this helps

Sean

We have just returned from a circuit of France including a stop at Camping au Coeur du Lac, at Sevrier on the western side of Lake Annecy and whilst there was no particular aspect of the site that was notable, nor was there anything to complain about. The staff were friendly, the site was clean and tidy and there is no road noise.

At the lower end of the site there is a gate through the hedge onto the fantastic cycle path - directly across the path there is access to an area of the lake shore and only a couple of minutes walk along the path brings you to one of the few landing stages for the boats that tour the lake. Also, there are supermarkets very close by for any shopping you might require.

All in all, not perhaps the best equipped site on the shores of the lake but we have decided to return again next year nevertheless.

Olivier.

PS - Where can I find details of the route for the 2007 Tour?
