Hi All , When we were away last week we had a motorhome on the pitch next to us, tghey were there for a couple of nights and when packing up just before they left the gentleman went to the side of the van and drained the grey water onto the pitch not very good for the next occupant and a time before a motorhome was driving off site draining his grey water as he drove out of the site, my question are motorhome owners getting lazy?

sorry to jump in on this thread, but we are still very new to caravanning. On our first trip a few weeks ago, the 3 or 4 caravans around us were emptying their grey water down the drain at the water point, natuarlly as we knew no different we followed suit. Just wondering, is this the correct place to dispose of grey water, or should it go in the chemical toilet disposal?

If it was a club site Rick there are usually two taps with a drain underneath each one. One is for drinking water, filling up your AquaRoll and the other is for emptying grey waste. The tap is for rinsing your WasteMaster.

If you use CLs or CSs, small private sites which should only allow 5 units, sometimes the grey water is emptied in the hedgerows.

Never empty it on your pitch or around it.

hi all.

no need to apologise rick thats what treads are for, so members can jump in and have their say "even if some would prefer you not to",;O)

Anyway to topic the method of disposing of grey water on site is as varied as the sites themselves, as LB points out club sites usually have 2 taps on one it will say "drinking water" most other sites do have a specific point for waste water disposal even if it is just in the hedge, on the odd site they want the grey water down the elsan point.

it is allways worth asking where the diposal point is on site on arrival.

It's a good point the old tyke brought up, he's got more brains than I gave him credit for ... heh! heh! heh!

If it's a private site find out as soon as possible where the grey water goes. I've been on some sites, where as the old tyke said, the grey goes down the same place as the loo and you need muscles in your spit trying to balance a full WasteMaster on top of some contraption a couple of feet off the ground.

The original post asked "are motorhome owners getting lazy?"

As a motorhome owner I would say there are thoughtless motorhome owners just as there are thoughtless caravanners. I would not dream of emptying my grey waste on a pitch but of course some people do. I have seen many caravanners with their waste outlet coupled to a drainage filter arrangement laid under their van.

Lord B, Nice to see you are posting and that both you and Lady B are well. I now spend most of my time on a MH forum. We popped into Tudor Park last month and remembered meeting up with you both. Ray

Hi Ray, I was only mentioning you the other day in an email to a forum member. I did say you don't post now much since you bought a MH. Hope you and your good lady are in the best of health ;O)

Quote ... "are we sure the MH in question was not just emptying the cold water tank or the hot water tank"?

This leads me on to another point. When emptying the water heater I always put a bucket underneath to catch the water rather than empty it straight onto the pitch. I then empty it away at the disposal point. What I don't understand is I've never seen anyone else doing this so I can only assume others empty it straight onto the pitch. Is this correct?

I need to know because I'll be buggered if I'm going to be the only one who does it :O)

Why would you put a bucket under the drain its not grey water its clean out of the aquarole, the amount of rain we have had this year its not going to make that much differance to the pitch, or are you taking the micky LB.

Hot water can scald the grass. Only at one site (CC Henley on Thames) have I seen a sign asking you to not empty your hot tank until you are on the roadway.

No on a hard standing there should be no issue.

However we, as part of our packing up turn off the water heater and then pull all the hot water available through the sink to clean the pipes. All that is then in the hot tank when we open the drain is cold water.

I never thought of it as an issue until I saw the sign at Henley on Thames, however it does make sense.

Afternoon All,

I agree i always empty my waste master into either the shared drain on the pitch or if i am on a rally we are instructed to empty it into the bushes. With reference to the other point about empting the cold tank, i always pull off the pitch, step out of the car and jump in the caravan to open the tank and let it drain that way. Is this correct does anyone else do this?

Thanks

Rob.

Greetings your Lordship,

Another tyke (loiner to be right).

Long time ago I didn't even know there was a tap to the hot water but after 'discovering' the weight contained therin I always empty it and ALWAYS use a bucket cos' the hot water kills off the grass..

There, thats two tykes you know that aren't as daft as you thought!!!

Are you sure it was grey water?

I always empty the on board water tank onto the pitch, required to enable to check the nose weight.

Richard

Always refer to the site owner for waste water disposal, i find most owners ask you to put the waste into the hedge rows, river or lake, usually i opt for the long grass.

Waste into the elson is usually a no no, the owner has to pay to have the tanks emptied.

River or lake? That's a first for me and the next person I know of who does this I will report to the Environment Agency.

"OMG" I was reading the posts above and nearly choked on my supper, If any site owner ever suggested emptying grey water down any water course, I would not only ring the enviroment agency but also the council and get their licence revoked.

grey water contains detergents and "WILL KILL THE MARINE LIFE"

As for emptying the hot water tank, a little tip for LB instead of using a bucket and wasting 10,ltrs of nice hot water try putting it into the empty waste hog with a little cleaner to wash the hog out. as they say up here in tyke land "waste not want not".

What a load of old Hoo Haa!

Always ask the site where the waste goes.

Some odd muppet is always going to be lazy and buck the system.

It's not the end of the world just get on with it yourself and maybe advise others that it is best for all if you empty out in the correct place!

Sorry, just use some good old Common Sense.

Use the waste container for hot water disposal, the cold waste water soon cools hot water when added and no need to carry a bucket ;)
