Yorkie Puds,

Firstly you may not know this but when writing to the forum can you turn off your caps lock? its considered to be shouting.

Secondly, re your grill, if you're releasing the knob as soon as the grill is lit then thats the problem, you're not leaving enough time for the thermo couple to warm up & work, if you are holding the knob in for a short while, try keeping it depressed for a bit longer, if that still doesn't work, then you've guessed it, the thermo couple has had it, yes it can be a DIY replacement, but me personally, I'd leave it for a specialist, you can't be too sure when mucking about with gas systems

Yorkie Puds,

Try counting for 15 secs before releasing the knob. If that does not work - thermo couple. Let a gas engineer do it.

Good luck. JTS.

Capitals is generally considered shouting but as it was once pointed out to me, if he/she don't see to well, it helps in the writing!

The thermocouple could be directly at fault, it could though just be dirty. Also though it could be the electro magnet on which it acts or the screw connection between could be loose.

It is also common for the grill gas jet to become partially blocked and restrict the gas flow, there may not then be enough heat from what flame there is to heat the tip of the thermocouple.

Two I forgot, under the thermocouples electrical screw connection to the valve, there is a soldered tip which can corrode and stop electricity passing.

Muck under the control knob or a stiff valve spindle can stop you pressing the valve fully in contact with the magnet
