ground sheets

If a CC site (new forest) says no ground sheets permitted, what do you do if you have guest sleeping in awning. Are the breathable ones allowed. Thanks for any help.

Jan, if they say no groundsheets, and do not qualify that by saying breathable ones are ok, then it is NO groundsheets of any kind, I guess.

As for sleepig in the awning, a breathable one is no good for sleeping on as damp comes up through the holes or weave.

I think the only alternative is to have a piece of waterproof sheet which just covers the area of the sleeping unit and remove it during the daytime.

Damian,

We use an inner tent normally used in tents, I suppose we could use this and then lift it up during the day, its a bit of a nuisance though. I would have thought if no groundsheets were allowed then they would not allow awnings. Think I will have to telephone CC to find out.

Thanks for your comments.

Jan, the difference with awning is that you are required to lift the mudwall every day (weather permitting) to not kill the grass.

An awning allows light to reach the gras inside, so keeping it in good condition.

It only takes a few days with no light for grass to yellow and die off for the rest of the season.
