Dave

I've got to go to my Wyoming later today. I'll getback to you.

I am certain the internal handle springs back.

My lock was also very stiff when new. I just gave it a good 3 in 1 oil and it seems fine now.

Cheers

Alan

Hi dave,

My van is not a Bailey but does have the same Hartal door, I also found the lock stiff and quite often the inner handle sticks in the open position preventing the door closing, mine is spring loaded but I think it catches on the inner door trims which makes it stick, this normally happens when unlocking the door from the outside. The inner handle springs back OK when opening from the inside.

mine was so tight i was concerned keylock would break so i removed circlip and reduced the shaft diameter with emery cloth and a slow job it was too but i wondered if something had broken causing the loss of springiness.I know i could have taken it to dealer but we were in Dover and if we got locked out with a broken key we would have been in the smelly stuff. Thanks anyway for the help.

Hi Dave

Just checked the Wyoming . The internal Hartnall door handle when pushed down opens the lock and then returns to the central point, ie spring loaded. Turning it up locks the door.

As I said mine was stiff at first but oil and plenty of turning has made it smoother. I found the same with all the other locks, not uncommon. Some WD40, plenty of movement and then oil has worked for me.

I think you may have mislocated the return spring when you had it stripped down.

Cheers

Dave

You could drop an e-mail to Kelly Watts at Bailey asking for a new lock or a contact at Hartal. Bailey have written a few posts here today and have indicated a keeness to help where possible on this forum.

Cheers

I have a 2007 Sprite Alpine with a Hartal door lock and am having the same problems, I have tried the WD 40/ oil etc but not making a lot of difference. Living on the Isle of Wight its not an easy process to take the van back to the dealer on the mainland.

I have located the 2 screws under the makers name plate but cannot get at the other 2 that show through the red / green indicators. Do they prise out or do you drill out the plastic. Any suggestions.

Thanks

Hugh

Hi. I have a Swift Sterling Eccles Topaz 2008. Hartal lock has failed twice, once when away in Northumberland. Holiday cut short. Lock freed off after oiling and 24 hours later. Dealer checked no fault found. A week later failed again, could not get into van. Eventually managed to open but then it would not lock. Lock replaced with one from a new van by Torksey caravans.

Watched them fit the lock but noticed sticker over barrel of lock, this had been broken by key pushing into lock taking some of the sticker into barrel. I want to contact Hartal to discuss this problem and see if this is causing the fault or have they now found the problem ?
