I have a Toyota Avensis D4D on a 56 plate (2.0litre). Wish to tow a 1300mtplm caravan and have doubts at its ability. Anyone with any experience or advice would be appreciated.
i tow with a 53 plate 2ltr D4D are van is 1250kg it tows well but at 1300kg you are at the cars max, car is good on fuel we usally get around 32-34 to the gallon, its fantastic on the motorway and out pulls most 4x4 on the inclines although you do tend to up and down between 4th and 5th.
I tow with the same car as you have an 06 2.0d4d, i pull an 07 Bailey Pageant Series 6 Bertagne, at 1420kg dont load it to the max. I know Toyota only recommend a max of 1300kg but i find it tows well with a full car load and caravan hitched. the only concern i have is the back of the car is inclinded to ride very low so watch your nose weight.
Sean, the maximum towload that the manufacturer specifies is not a recommendation but a legal requirement. You are in endangering your insurance coverage if you go over the limit.
