Hi everyone. We are newbies and learning an awful lot from this forum. We have our maden voyage this weekend and with the weather forecast indicating cold and windy, just wanted to know is it safe and / or normal practice to leave the electric heater on all night either convecting or blown air.

Hi Tony.

We have left the blow air on all night in very cold weather, but i have to admit i did worry in case the sleeping bags came into contact with the fire etc, we now carry an extra blanket for the children and we turn the fire and the blown air off at night and just before the kids get up in the morning turn it back on again to take the chill off.

Enjoy your weekend away and hopefully it wont be too cold or windy..

Hi Tony,

Yes it is normal to leave the heating on at night.

You will probably only need it on very low, and it's a good idea to leave a couple of windows (nearest the bed) on the "night" setting (on the latch as it were) to stop them steaming up.

Certainly you can leave the electric heating on all night. It is the beauty of having it. Our old van which just had a gas heater was freezing at night during winter use. The new van with combined electric/gas heating has made life far far more comfy for cold weather caravaning.

Welcome to the forum Tony. When caravanning in early Spring or late Autumn (we don't do winter vanning!) we always turn the blown air heating on as soon as we're set up and plugged into the EHU and don't turn it off again until we go home. We turn it down when we're out during the day but not totally off as it's lovely to return to a nice, slightly warmed caravan when you've been out for a bracing walk. This stops it getting really cold and turning it back up on your return means it's back up to a comfortable temperature in no time.

Tony

We leave the electric convection heater on overnight, and when we are out, usually on 500watts set on the stat.

I would not leave the fan blowing, but that is up to you. Besides i find the blown air to be vertually useless, we boost our heating by using a portable fan heater on the 1kw setting, but only when in attendance.
