Heigher step?

When I'm putting the awning up I tend to stand on the caravan step to reach, but it's not quite high enough. I could do with being another 2" taller. I've looked around a couple of caravan shops and can not find anything heigher. Am I looking for the impossible? My current step is 14" high.

Trisha

PS: I had thought of taking a small step ladder with me, but don't want to waste payload on something that will only be used for 10mins at the beginning and end of each trip.

I was told when buying my van a couple of months back that they were all a standard height.

Could be just salesman talk tho

Have you thought about wearing high heels! only joking most steps are probably a similar height as you would encounter problems on sloping pithches when the back is lower than the front which would result in the step being higher than the door entry. You dont say why you need to reach if it is to do the poles then I cant help if it is to pull through the canvas try buying a puller which has a long handle I have one and they are great.

Have you looked at double steps? I have a feeling they're about 3-4 inches higher, only problem is on some pitches you can't open your door past them.

It is because I find pulling the canvas through difficult. I've never heard of a canvas puller. I'll have to have a look at the Isabella website or around the caravan shop for one.

Thanks

Hi Trisha

You should find an 'awning puller' in your local caravan accessory shop. We thought they looked a bit fiddly but, there again, if you need such a device it is safer than cockling on unstable equipment. Luckily my lovely husband is 6'5" tall so, luckily, we don't have the problem.

Hi Trishia,

We have a two step that gives you 16" overall height, All the dealers shops around here ( essex) sell them.We bought it for the same reason as you to give us the extra 2" height needed to erect the awning. We have no problem with opening the door with the step against the van,we have a Bailey pageant Imperial

We purchased a small lightweight 4 step ladder. Makes very little difference to payload as we only take it if we know we will be putting up the awning.

Trisha.the puller that I have I got from the canvas repair centre at Burton on Trent if you have a peg puller which is just a hook with a handle then the puller is the same except the rod is about 15in long and all you do is put the hook through the end rubber/loop on the awning and pull it is very easy.Mine I think only cost a couple of pound.

Thanks for your comments. I do have a peg pull. I never thought of using that.

I'll also take a look at towsure web site.
