Hello - we are new to the Forum but my wife and I have been caravanning for about 5 years. We have really taken to it so much so that when we retire (hopefully in about 2 years) we aim to change our small rig for something more luxurious and disappear over the horizon!

We are really looking forward to it and would be interested to hear from anyone who has done something similar and spends most of their time touring to help us avoid potential problems. One that comes to mind is how do we get our post? We have a house that is let and want to keep it that way to supplement our income. We are able to use it as our post code for credit cards etc. but cannot see how to overcome the problem of Mail. The Postal Redirection Service only lasts a couple of years and in any case if we are touring we will not have a stable address. Can anyone tell us how they have overcome this please?

Any advice on other potential pitfalls will be gratefully received as we plan our escape!

"Poste Restante"

You can receive mail at the central post offices of most French towns by telling your correspondents to address it to you putting your surname first ( in capitals ).

The address would then be .

SURNAME Roy ( Mr ),

Poste Restante,

Poste Centrale,

Town Name,

Post code.

To collect your mail you will need a passport, European driving licence or other convincing ID. There may be a small charge for the service which doesn't aleays work too well with larger packages which would be better sent for your attention at the caravan site you are living on at the time.

Olly.
