Hi All,

Having been a regular visitor to the PC website and an avid reader of the magazine over the past few years, I thought it was about time to join up and post the odd comment every now and then !

My wife and i have camped all our lives.. My brother and I were introduced to camping by our mum who purchased a Volkwagen camper van, and took us on a few camping holidays in the New Forest and a 6 week tour of Scotland in the school holidays. Eventually the camper van was sold, and we joined the YHA and enjoyed various camping holidays all over the UK.

My wife has always camped in frame and trailer tents, so shortly after we married, we purchased our own folding camper - a Penine 535 SE.. We had many happy holidays in it, particularly in N. Devon where we camped near Woolacombe several times each year with our young family..
One day in May 2008, we went out for an indoor day trip to the 'Milky Way' as the weather was fairly wet and windy.. we returned to the trailer tent to find that our awning had been demolished by the wind, bending the majority of the poles and tearing the awning in a couple of places.. As we were camping with friends and family and it was the last day of our holiday, we 'made do' and packed up and went home the following day.. When we got home, far from feeling more relaxed, we were more stressed than when we set out !! After a long discussion, we decided to sell the trailer tent, and purchase a caravan...

In August 2008 we became the proud owners of a Bailey Pageant Loire series 7... it was an ex-demonstrator, so we were able to get a very good deal from the dealer...We try to get away at least 3 or 4 times a year, but so far have restricted our holidays to the UK.... This is mainly due to a fear of our aging Landrover giving up the ghost when confronted with European motorways !!
We havent managed to get away this year yet, but are hoping to have our first holiday over Easter... Lets hope we have a sunny summer !!

Hi, welcome to the forum. You will find many on here have worked their way towards caravanning through all the other options for sleeping in a field. Like you we have camped, trailer tented, motorhomed and now caravan. I like caravanning the best although we had many happy holidays under canvas.
Look forward to your posts

Hello Jon, welcome to the Practical Caravan forum and I'm glad that you have finally taken the plunge and joined us

It's an ill wind that blows nobody any good and the demolition of your trailer tent in high winds has brought you to caravanning, hopefully your times spent in the caravan will always be sunny...

Hi Jon
Welcome to the Forum. I have only recently joined myself. Caravanners are certainly a friendly lot.
The only times we have camped under canvass was when we were courting back in the day. We were with a bunch of friends in a large bell tent. We arrived back late one night and couldn't find the tent. It had been blown down in the high winds and heavy rain. We all had to sleep in our cars as there was no way we could erect the tent in those conditions. My husband's family were caravanners so that was my introduction to our lovely world. We have never looked back and hope to enjoy many more happy years in our home from home.

Hi Sir Gagakev.. yes we love that area of N. Devon, and stay at Damage Barton which is on the road down towards Mortehoe - you probably know it.. if you see some idiots messing around with a blue kayak on Woolacome or Putsborough beach, that'll be us !!! come rain or shine, we're in the sea... The facilities at Damage Barton are excellent, as are the views... the only downside is that the site is really exposed to the weather, and when the site owners describe the weather as being 'a bit breezy' it feels like a hurricane force gale inside the awning

... I'm going to try to get my car situation sorted this year, and maybe we'll be a bit more adventurous, and go to France or Spain next year... we'd better start saving...
nice to hear from you... Jon
