Welcome to the forum Rob.

You will find a great wealth of information from the users which will hopefully be of some use to you.

Please dont think that any questions you have are dumb or stupid, we all had to learn about our hobby at some point.

With your intended plans, getting the right van for your needs is going to be very important, as well as the correct vehicle to tow it with,,,big choices, big decisions and potentially quite a large outlay.

i should have said i all ready have my tow car that i wouldnt mind keeping.

its a 93 range rover classic v8 auto

i have all ready fitted the heavy duty suspension and ditched the troublesome air suspension for fit and forget reliability.

as for caravans i know about enough to fill in the back of a postage stamp lol

i know i will need a awning etc and my choice of van would need the water and heating to run on both mains hook up and 12v power

all tho i will prob get a small generator as a power sorce.

my budget is 8k for the van and prob another 2k for extra,s i will need

With the car you have a wide range of vans to choose from.

As for water and heating, only the heater fan runs on 12v.

The actual heating of both water and space heating is by either Electric or gas, or both if its cold for a short while.

As for a genny, they are very expensive to run and you would need to get one with inverter technology to protect the electronics in the van, so not a cheap one and definately not a 2 stroke.

Choice of van , well best thing is to go around as many dealers as possible and see which van or vans suit your requirements, sleeping wise and seating and of course bathroom.

Once you have decided on that, then the search can begin to source the type you want, be it dealer , private or whatever.

8k should get you a very good van, and depending where you buy it may include an awning and other bits and pieces.
