Hi Alan. Welcome to the forum. Lots of advice on here. If you let folks know what parameters you are working within, ( budget, berths, tow vehicle, max weight etc) , suggestions will be made. When did you pass your driving test, as it has a bearing on towing weights.
Happy van hunting

The OP does not say where in God's Own County - its big you know! If he is in the south of the county then a good place to go for a browse is Glossop Caravans: if in the north then Ropers at Catterick Bridge or Teesside Caravans are all good organisations to deal with and have plenty of stock to look around. There is also Catterick Caravans close to Ropers who are the same company as Ebor Caravans on the A64 between York and Malton.
Good luck.

You should have B+E entitlement on your licence which essentially means you can tow any almost any caravan with it except for a few over length German ones.
The Freelander will have the towing capacity for a wide range of caravans and if you are looking for a two berth almost anything you find. The Freelander will have a makers towing capacity which you need to check and not exceed. The towing limit is probably higher than what is wise. You need to check the kerb weight of the car and this should not be exceeded as the MTPLM (maximum weight) of the caravan and rather less is the safe option. For beginners an 85% towing ratio is suggested but I would think 90% is safe enough with that car.
The Freelander is an excellent tow car though so you should have no problem with that.
Two berths come in two basic layouts and you need to look at them to see what suits you. Essentially you either get a toilet compartment across the back and a side kitchen or a kitchen across the back and a corner toilet. The latter is basically a space saver and if you have a dog something a bit bigger will help.
As a beginner you are better off with a dealer as there are a lot of problems out there with newcomers being sold problem models. A good dealer is a safer bet.
At £5K though you will be looking at older models so some care is needed. Do make sure there is a recent damp check as this is the thing that is the biggest problem in older models.
Dogs are accepted on almost all sites, but it is as well to check before going.
