Hi folks recently moved from trailer tent to a 1998 lunar solar 524. we have been away once already but are looking to buy a full awning for the summer the handbook says 979 ground to ground but i have been told to measure as this can be innacurate. how do i measure? some sites show to go right round the awning channel others say follow the line of the van at the front in an A shape! Sorry to ppost a question as my hello but im vexed.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum. Get a piece of string and go from the floor up to one side of the awning rail, all the way round the awning rail and down to the ground on the other side. That's the size you need.

Hope I havn't confused you.

Thanks pat and Hi, no im already confused you experienced folks will clear the water for me. Some dealers are saying at the front of the van as the channel curves away i should then follow the line of the front of the van. thats the bit i cant get in my head.

In your awning channel, at the curved end, there's probably a 'gap' where you feed the awning in, and this is where the 'flap' of the awning covers the gap and the awning stops following the curve. Feed the string in from the back end, and at the 'gap' at the front just bring the string out through the 'gap' and then hold the string at a point on the floor which follows the line of the awning channel above the gap.

Hope this makes sense. See the drawing here:

Most awnings come in sizes which go up by 25 centimetres, so they are only ever an approximate fit.

A lot depends on your budget Mark.

You might receive more replies about which awning is the best if you start a thread in the Equipment & Accessories section where more members will see it.
