Hello.
After 15 years holidaying in the slow lane touring the Canals of the UK, in our 6 ton 32ft hunk of metal canalboat, (also due to me contracting Rheumatoid Arthritis, can't handle the boat anymore) We, Me John and my better Half Tracey, decided to buy a Caravan. We didn't want to go overboard ! and buy a new van at first, so bought a 1996 Sterling Europa 500ES, Had our first weekend away with the van 3 weeks ago, and loved it. ... Got the rest of the year planned and booked already...

I think we are going to like this very much ..

Hello John & Tracey, welcome aboard the Practical Caravan forum and congratulations on reaching dry land and buying your Sterling Europa.
Now that you've got the maiden voyage in your caravan over and done with no doubt you will soon be doing a proper shakedown cruise and if there is anything that you want to know about just ask.
We will look forward to reading about your new adventures ashore, happy caravanning

Hi John + Tracey, welcome to the world of caravaning and also the forum.
I have always fancied a canal trip so this year we are to do the opposite of you, we are leaving the caravan behind and going to wander up the Avon + Kennett. Deposit paid and set to go in September. It is only for a week though, then it will be back to the van.
Happy vanning.

Hiya Mel, Thanks for the welcome

I'm going to miss the boat, and the queuing (getting un-sober) at the locks, or getting caked in oil and diesel, or falling in the Shropshire Union.. gonna miss all that .. ha.. but time to take things easier.

The Kennet and Avon canal is a good choice for a cruise. We done a boat swap with other canal boaters, very enjoyable !! be ready for the caen hill locks, 29 of them, takes you up 240 feet over 2 miles, but very impressive feat of engineering..... Fun though :)...
I'm jealous,

Hi John, dont think I want to go now, thought plodding along at walking pace would be very relaxing.
