Hi Everyone.
I'm Joanne and have just started towing this year, i bought an 1988 abbey executive last Oct.
Its been in storage since, my daughter, dog and i had our first trip last week and even with the snow we had a great time.
I'm sure you will all be a great help to me in the future.
Actually one quick question. do you tend to get your car checked over more than its service because you tow with it or do you think once a year is ok ?

Hi Joanne, welcome to the Practical Caravan forum and congratulations on becoming a touring caravan owner

It's best to keep a close eye on the oil, coolant and most importantly the tyres, the engine oil and coolant can be depleted by towing and the tyre pressures and overall condition of the tyres both on the car and on the caravan are vital.
Do you know how long the tyres have been on the caravan Joanne? Although there may be plenty of tread left you should change caravan tyres after 5 years because the sidewalls deteriorate and are prone to punctures.
I hope that you will enjoy using the forum to find out the things that you want to know.

hi joanne, welcome to the forum, if you have any questions just ask? and let me say straight away there is no such thing as a daft question? "only daft answers"

regarding the car servicing, yes I do have it serviced twice a year spring and autumn irrespective of the mileage and also do weekly checks of the oil, water, brake fluid and tyre pressures, if towing I increase the pressures to full load psi "as in the handbook"
also we tend not to go winter caravanning so have the car serviced before the first outing usually this is the time I have the MOT done as well to make double sure everything is as it should be,

Hi Joanne1970, and welcome to the forum.
You have received lots of good advice already, but there is plenty of good information available on the site and it covers just about any topic you can think of connected with caravans, equipment, sites and towing etc.
So take a while, have a good look around, and enjoy your caravanning!
