Hello, I hope someone can help me with this problem, our new to us caravan has a fixed carpet which is in new condition, with 2 adults, 3 kids and alot of visitors when we go away i have been trying everything to keep it clean, i bought 2 long runners which slided and moved about all the time, then a full length of vinyl floor protector which creeps worse than the runners even with carpet grip, i'll say no more, please help.

Fix velcro - the hooked side - to the underside of the runners. This then gets a grip on the fixed carpet. I used the velcro disks, large size, and plenty of them. Backed up the adhesive on the discs with a flexible adhesive which claims to be able to stick soles back onto shoes. Would'nt stake my life on the shoe claim but it keeps the runner to heel - so to speak.

Maybe the original carpet is 'anti velcro'. Our original carpet, with original polythene protector still in place, is covered with a fitted replacement - an end of roll off cut from a carpet warehouse. Fiddly job but once done it is an ideal template for the next replacement.

Ikea used to do some rubber grippy stuff to go under mats. Never tried it myself so can't say if it is any good. I make everyone take their shoes off in the awning!!

To keep our carpets clean in wet weather and cut grass etc we lay down two bath towels they grip to the carpet very well and are easy to take up shake out and put back, If they get very dirty we just wash them. Our carpets in our 4 year old van and just as new still. Cheaper than runners too.

When I used carpet runners in the van I had a short screw with cup washer at each corner

We removed the seperate carpets in our van on delivery and replace with end of roll (polypropylene I think) and it keeps much cleaner and no gaps to hoover between

Hang on a minute! I don't understsnd all this protection lark! You bought the caravan because you liked its equipment, including the carpet, so why hide it away under protection?

By all means take dirty shoes off before entering, even I do that, but I don't hide the carpet.

My pal buys a new car every couple of years, always specifies leather seats then puts covers on them to protect them. When I asked why, he replied " it keeps the seats nice" Yes it does, but for the next owner, not for him. Doesn't make any sense to me, sorry.

Thanks all for replies, my husband agrees with you Emerson, just walk on the carpet and enjoy it but am afraid i can't do it, although i have spent that much on hiding the carpet i could have replaced it by now. Might try the towell idea this weekend, let you know how it goes.

We only put cotton mat in doorway when wet as thats where we leave the shoes as we rarely put an awning up and we only have a little caravan :)
