We bought a 2000 Abbey Caravan (our first) with a Truma water heater . I have had hot water for a shower once but since have only had a short burst of water from the hot tap and no more. The problem is I'm not sure what I am doing. When I put my water pump in my aquaroll does it automatically fill up the wyer heater tank? If so how do I know if it is full?

Thanks Jenny

Jenny,

The only safe way to prime your water system is BEFORE you connect the mains supply.

When you arrive on site, first thing to do after unhitching and putting the legs down is to get a full aquaroll of water, plug the pump in and use the 12v battery supply only to fill the water system.

When filling, first make sure the drain tap by the water heater is closed.

Then as the pump runs, open a Hot tap until water runs without air as well, repeat for the other hot taps and shower, then do the same for cold.

Only when you are certain no more air is coming through, then connect the mains supply and switch the water heater on, or use the gas to heat the water.

If you do not follow this procedure you risk burning the electric element out.

The hot water system will NOT fill properly unless you bleed all the air out first.

It's going to need some investigation by yourself Jenny. How long do you have the hot water tap on for? It can take quite some time for the heater to fill. Are there any leaks in or outside of the caravan? Turn the hot tap on (you should hear air hissing out of it when it's being filled) then check to see if there is any water leaking from the inside or the outside of the caravan. Does the pump operate when you turn on the hot water tap?

Your pump will only fill the water heater if you turn the hot tap on and wait for all the air to escape. Do you get any water out of the hot tap or indeed the cold?

Sorry if it's a lot of questions, but having the information is going to help the chaps on here come up with a solution, without going round the hills before you hit on the right one.
