Hi everyone can anyone please help we are having problems with the kitchen tap in our van we have recently bought. We get cold water through it but not hot we have renewed the micro switch and cartridge still no joy the van is a 2002 elddis crusader aurora we are now left with the pump constantly running as well now which wasn't doing before can anyone shed any light on this thanks.

Hello Suzie,

I think you may have more than one problem. So I'll deal with the simpler one to diagnose first.

You tell us you have changed the micro-switch in the kitchen tap. That confirms your system uses switched taps rather than a pressure switch.

You don't actually tell us if you get hot water at any of the other taps, If they're all cold, then check the water heater is turned on and actually gets hot.

If the pump is running it means one or more taps is turned on, Check ALL taps are off. If the pump continues to run then it means either another micro-switch has gone faulty or the wiring has developed a short circuit, I suggest you double check where you rewired the replacement micro-switch first then if necessary look elsewhere.

Now daft as it may seem, what happens to the pump if you turn the 'faulty' hot tap on? - If the pump stops, then the micro-switch you have fitted is faulty. (The manufacturer may have wired it up incorrectly) If the pump continues to run but no water flows, then you have a blocked or possibly kinked hot water pipe somewhere.

If water flows from the faulty tap but its cold or tepid, then (seriously) check you have turned your shower taps fully off. In some systems the shower mixer valve can cross feed and affect the temperature of other taps in the caravan. This shouldn't happen and it means that one or more Non return valves in the shower feed pipes may have failed.

Thanks very much for your reply I do apologise for not explaining myself to well to start.We were getting hot and cold coming through bathroom sink and cold through kitchen so thought to try changing micro switch in kitchen with no joy.Then knowing the bathroom Def worked swapped them around and still no hot water through the kitchen but still cold and still both through the bathroom but now the pump is continuously running so now more of a problem than we started with nightmare thanks for your help.I will take back the info you have given on the faults on the micro switches as we may have caused a fault somewhere as we didn't have the problem with pump before we change the micro switches thanks for that.... the no hot water to the kitchen sink is the real baffler as we are getting it at all other points thanks for any help.

Good morning Suzie,

There's no need to appologise.

Thank you for the extra information. Not quite sure what you mean by "Bathroom Def...." I'll assume you mean 'Bathroom set'.

As you have hot water to other tap sets the lack of hot to the kitchen must be a blockage or kink somewhere in the feed pipe to that tap.

If its a kink, then it just needs un-kinking, but if its a blockage, you may need to replace that section of pipe. Suitable food grade piping will be available from your local caravan dealer - Do not use garden hosepipes, these are not food grade and may contain harmful chemicals that can leach out into the water passing through.

The continually running pump, I strongly suspect its something you have done when changing the tap micro-switch, so you need to recheck your wiring connections.

Just for general knowledge, when the micro-switches are wired correctly, if any tap is not fully closed shut, the pump will run with no water flow. This can be a pump killer. Most submersible pumps need water flow to cool the motor casing. Without flow, the motor will over heat in a matter of minutes softening the plastic housing and seals which can distort and let water into the motor. This will be curtains for the pump.

Once again thank you for your reply and help I will take your advice today and go back and try again 3rd day lucky fingers crossed today if nothing else at least get our pump back to working the way it was and should be and hopefully sort out the water flow problem that got us into this mess haha..Thank you for your help.
