It was nice to read about visiting Hereford in the PC mag but they missed the best site to stay at,i would recomend you stay at Lucksall caravan park near Hereford ,i am sure Lord B will also recomend it ,www.lucksallpark.co.uk you have 36 riverside pitches on grass wich you must book in advance, there are over 100 pitches all large and level there is Canoe & bike hire clean toilets & showers ,Hereford town centre is only 5 mins by car or you can fish in the river Wye on site children and the infirm should beware of the steep river bank ,if you want stay at Symond Yat i would recomend Sterretts caravan park allthough mainly a static park though do have 8 pitches for tourers all with electric

Hi joby, yes I have to agree with you. I'm not biased just because it's a few minutes drive away, it's because it is one of the better sites I have visited and I've been to a few now, from Brora to Marazion. My stay at Lucksall at the end of last year totalled 10 weeks so I had plenty of time to look around .. hehheh!

It is good for fishing, as you say, and it's outlook alongside the River Wye, which is one of the best if not the best, course fishing rivers in the U.K.

The only complaint I have, although it doesn't bother me because I use my own, is the shower block. Although new it's on the small side (and they charge)but I see they have been having a lot of work done on the old shower block which will improve matters.

For those who like eating out there are numerous places within a few miles, like the Crown at Woolhope, Green Man at Fownhope, Bunch of Carrots at Hampton Bishop, etc.

Haugh Wood, about 2 miles away, has excellent dog walks. There is a car park at the top of the hill and when I've walked in the wood on the opposite side of the road I've always spotted deer.

What I might add that joby missed off is that you can take your own canoes and launch them from the site.

Once the hundreds of trees they have planted become established the site will be even nicer :O)

I'm just about to copy/paste this post and email it to Lucksall to see if I can get a few nights free for recommending them hehheh!

Lord B. on Sunday 15th. April and again on Saturday 21st April my wife and I will be travelling through the county of Hereford to and from North Wales. Can I have your assurance that as we are not actually stopping in the county that we will be granted safe passage through?

Sorry Colin, it depends on the moon and how it affects my moods. I will get Ptolemy the Turd, my astrologer, to give me a forecast but in the meantime stay safe, take the A483 via Llandrindod Wells ;O)

It doesn't matter

because the crabs in here

Lord B. I beg of you to give me safe passage through your fine county. The alternative through Llandrindnod Wells is not such a good route for towing a caravan and having never been to north east Wales before I would rather take a route where the roads appear to be more suited for towing. Fair enough it may be a longer route but an easier route to drive and tow.

Therefore sir I must again ask for this safe travel through your county. If you wish accept this posting as me grovelling to you on bended knee.

Never Sir. Can't even recall driving along this road let alone towed on it.
