Apologies for daring to post comments before I have introduced myself!
My family started caravanning in 1971, when our daughter was just a few months old, in a 9' Europa van. We progressed through an Alpine 12' and on to a Thomson Glenalmond.
At that time we were living in Bournemouth and belonged to the West Hants and Dorset centre of the Caravan Club. We had great fun on the rallies.
People with caravans usually have itchy feet and that was the case with us. In 1975 we emigrated to New Zealand taking our 'rig' a Triumph 2000 and the Thomson Glenalmond with us.
On settling in we joined the Akarana Caravan Club in Auckland and did some rallies with them until we needed capital for our business and the van had to go.
Last year, on a trip home to the UK we were bitten by the bug again and finished up buying a new Ace Jubilee Ambassador (Fabulous Van!) from Chichester Caravans in Winchester and shipping it back to NZ.
Caravans have changed somewhat from our early days, and all for the better I reckon!
One of the greatest things that was new to me was the Caravan Mover!! Having read about them on this forum I purchased a Powrtouch and wow was I impressed. So much so that, even though I retired a few years ago, I asked for and got the Powrtouch agency for New Zealand so now I have even more of a reason to get out and about in our new van.
So you can see how this forum has made a subtle change to my caravanning life, a very good change at that.
