hello i have just got back into caravanning after owning a vw camper for the last 4 years ,i have purchased a bailey discovery s e auvergne with a alko1300 stabiliser fitted which after inspection inside the hitch itself i have found grease (probably used like this by previous owner?) would i be right to think that it needs to be cleaned off and use the hitch grease free .I have matched the unit with a volvo v70 2.0 d and have worked out the towing weights on a towsafe site and they all seem fine any advice would be much appreciated thanks ian

Hi Richie, welcome to the Practical Caravan forum and congratulations on buying your Auvergne. Alko stabilisers need to be free of contaminants, especially grease and you may need to replace the friction pads or clean them using brake cleaner. Alko stabilisers also need an Alko tow ball which has a slightly longer shank, if you fit a new towball remove all traces of paint from the ball before hitching up and use brake cleaner to keep the ball free from grease and road grime.
There are many Bailey owners who use this forum and all members are happy to share tips and advice so if there is anything that you're not sure about just ask
