Steve has posted a motto in Towcars/Biodiesel, "One life. Live it!"

I have one of my own.

"I've been doing some serious thinking that's just come into my head.

If you don't have a drink when you're living, you'll have a hell of a job when your dead!"

More of a ditty than a motto but it's meaning is similar to Steve's posting.

So, are there any other mottos or ditties that you live your life by?

Just remember there's a Mod lurking around, keep em clean.

It's a pity that the Labour government in power now had not adopted that approach. They have abandoned all the thoughts of the original labour party. Fair enough one must keep up with the times but they appear to have the policy of "B****r you Jack I'm ok" They have forgotten their class roots by a long shot.

This response was supposed to have been a reply to Lord B's posting regarding the Tory party. Posted in the wrong slot - sorry.

My previous posting was tongue in cheek.

'Manners cost nothing'

I strongly believe in the above statement, I can't stand bad manners.

A similar twist to the saying regarding manners would be "Manners maketh man". How often have you seen in recent years the standard of respect has gone down the chute?

A further motto which has lost its meaning is "It takes a gentleman to recognise a lady". Again the respect for the fair sex has gone - standing up when a lady enters the room, holding the door open for a lady, walking on th eoutside of a lady, carrying the luggage/baggage for a lady, etc. etc.

Forgot to mention it but what really annoys me is expecting a lady to pay her way when out socialising - I believe its called going Dutch. If you cannot afford to entertain a lady then don't ask her out.

I think its whats called "equality" Colin. I'm not saying whether its right or not but for example it does seem a bit unfair for the male to pay for everything today when the female might be earning more than him. As for manners if you stand for a lady to sit in todays p.c. society or carry her luggage you are openly telling everyone you think she is weaker than you. I open doors or hold them open for anyone irrespective of age, its only common courtesy. When I was young females never smoked in the street, it was frowned upon by other women and was an indicator to that persons status but times have changed.

If it jams, force it

If it breaks, "well it needed replacing anyway"

Never ask anyone to do something you would not do yourself

TELL THEM TO DO IT!
